Northwest Plaza opened in 1963 as an open shopping mall center, The developers were Louis Zorsenky and Milton Zorsenky, Saul Brodsky, at that time the mall opened, It was the largest mall in the world. It was anchored by Famous-Barr, JCPenney and Sears, Junior anchors included local department stores Vandervoort's opened in 1965, and Boyd's & a Walgreen's store, and a Woolworth dime store, and Stix, Baer & Fuller later joined the center in 1971 to 1983, Dillard's acquired all Stix stores in 1984.
