Northwestern School District is a small, rural, public school district based in Albion, PA. The district borders Lake Erie and the state of Ohio.
Northwestern School District encompasses approximately 122 square miles in the northwestern corner of PA, bordering Lake Erie and the state of Ohio. The district serves residents in Albion Borough, Cranesville Borough, Platea Borough, Conneaut Township, Elk Creek Township, and Springfield Township. Three of our school are situated on a scenic 84-acre campus in Albion, Northwestern Elementary School (K-5), Northwestern Middle School (6-8) and Northwestern High School (9-12). The Albion campus is also home to the historic one-room Valley School. The district includes one more school located in East Springfield, PA. Springfield Elementary School (K-5) provides a neighborhood school for children residing in the northwestern part of the District.
The Northwestern School District, in partnership with its parents, seeks to instill in its students, high standards for academic scholarship, integrity, leadership, and responsible citizenship.
*Emphasis is on enabling each individual to develop his or her fullest potential through a variety of educational experiences, as well as opportunities for individualized study.
*High school curricula includes area of concentration in college preparatory work, business education, technology education (industrial arts), agriculture, or vocational training (in conjunction with Erie County Technical School).
*Only district in Erie County to offer students a Vocational Agriculture program.
*Advanced work for gifted and talented students is available, including a class for academically gifted elementary students and enrichment activities for those at the secondary level.
*Special Education needs are met by teachers who implement an identified student's Individualized Education Plan. A team including educators, a psychologist and the child's parents develop this plan cooperatively.
*A full slate of co-curricular sports and activities, plus free bus transportation for students who participate in after-school activities. Activities include, football, basketball (boys and girls), volleyball, cross country, wrestling, baseball, softball, track and field, Unified Sports Track and Field, Academic Sports League, National Honor Society, Student Council, Drama Club, Forte, Guitar n' Strings Club, PAW Mentors, just to name a few.
