Mission

The Norwich Community Cinema Foundation (NCCF) was established to present Independent, foreign, classic, documentary, and locally produced films, all that would not otherwise be available in our area. The NCCF seeks to entertain, to educate and to provide the opportunity for discussion about the films and the topics they raise.

Additionally, NCCF is committed to providing a venue for film in downtown Norwich. We believe that a vibrant downtown is an essential piece of the economic revitalization of Norwich and that arts events, whether film, music, gallery openings, dance, or theater, are an integral component of this revitalization.

NCCF will look for ways to use the film medium to bridge cultural barriers, spark social discourse and foster a greater sense of community.

Products

Independent Film Series - Second Saturdays (Year round)

The Independent series presents a mixed bag of contemporary independent, foreign, and documentary films, as well as classic favorites. Speakers and opportunities for discussion may also be offered. Launched in June 2009 amid the Norwich Semi-Sepcentenial celebration, our Second Saturday film series is our core work. In 2010, we started preceding each feature film by a board selected, contemporary short film. Shorts are chosen from films currently being presented at film festivals throughout the world.

Foreign Film Series – Fourth Fridays (October - June)

In January 2010, NCCF partnered with the Norwich Free Academy to present a series of foreign films. Sponsored by a federal diversity grant, NCCF now shows foreign language films with English subtitles at no cost to the public. Films are selected across an array of cultures with a focus on native language films that represent the cultural diversity of the greater Norwich area.

Documentary Series – Third Thursdays (October – June)

In October 2010, NCCF partnered with the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) sponsored Independent TV Service (ITVS) Community Cinema. ITVS Community Cinema co-sponsors the PBS television series, Independent Lens. This series presents high-quality, socially relevant, documentary films on local public television stations across the country, including CPTV in Connecticut. About a month prior to the television broadcast of selected films in the series, Norwich Community Cinema hosts a screening and facilitated discussion. Norwich is one of 65 host cities across the nation and one of only two locations in Connecticut that host these events.
