Who is Nurturing Soul?
Nurturing Soul Birth Services was founded by me, Melissa Ross, in 2015. As a new mother myself, I did not know what a doula was until after the amazing birth of my son. It was a few days after getting home from the hospital that I noticed how I was constantly thinking about birth, and not just his. I wanted to hear every mother's birth experience, but also I wanted to be involved in the empowering event that I had just gone through a million more times. It is my goal to assist new mamas and families;
-by helping them feel empowered and confident
-to show them how strong and powerful our bodies truly are and,
-to give them the tools and knowledge to have the best birth possible (however that may be for them).
I am also passionate about helping women and their families during the postpartum period. I believe, unfortunately, there is so much lacking emotionally in postpartum care.
Every woman and newly formed family deserves a birth and postpartum doula.
I am certified as a birth doula as well as a postpartum doula through Cornerstone Doula Trainings in San Francisco. I'm also working my way towards becoming a certified placenta specialist.
So... what IS a Doula anyways?
In my own words a Doula is a support system, for not only the laboring person, but the whole family. We provide emotional and physical support throughout your pregnancy, labor, and postpartum as well. We can also provide help with breastfeeding, if you so choose.
As a doula, I am a holder of space. I will provide you with a safe, comfortable environment to bring your baby earthside.
As a doula, I am here as your advocate.
As a doula, I will provide you with any knowledge you may request about pregnancy, labor, birth, or what to expect during postpartum.

What is placenta encapsulation?
From americanpregnancy.org
Placental encapsulation is the practice of ingesting the placenta after it has been steamed, dehydrated, ground, and placed into pills. Traditionally, this is taken by the mother and is believed to impart numerous health benefits such as;
•Increased release of the hormone oxytocin, which helps the uterus return to normal size and encourages bonding with the infant
•Increase in CRH, a stress-reducing hormone
•Decrease in post-partum depression levels
•Restoration of iron levels in the blood
•Increase in milk production
