A Wichita landmark! This little W. Douglas NuWay is a fast food icon, opened 1930 nearly a century ago, when the Ford Model A was state of the art. Home of the original crumbly burger and home made root beer, served in frosted mugs. Everything on the menu is tasty, but the experience of dining in this little nostalgic Wichita treasure is not to be understated. A friend brought me to this NuWay when I first lived in Wichita, described the NuWay story and historic nature of this location. The experience never left me, so I try to do the same when entertaining people from 'out of town'. Check it out. It's a Wichita food history!!
Great food home made onion rings and root beer
The sandwich was good. The onion rings were awesome. And the 2 young people working W Douglas are inspiring! Just wanted to let mgrs know the staff there caused me to write. I enjoy the old school history & demeanor there.
This was a different kind of burger, a crumbly burger, and it was pretty good. I had the bacon cheese crumbly burger. The fries weren't bad, they were crisped well, just needed salt which I added. But the number one reason I will come back was the Root Beer, they make it there and it was delicious. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming. Bottom line: It's worth trying, especially the Root Beer.
My husband and I have lived within 25 miles of Wichita all our lives and neither one of us had ever had NuWay Burgers until today. They were great! The onion rings were delicious and the fresh root beer was out of this world! It cost less than $20 for a first class meal for two. We will definitely go back!
Stood at the counter for several minutes with no aknowledgement; it wasn't obvious that we were to self-seat. Finally apparent there was only one person serving/waiting tables. Sat for very long time watching other tables being served. Went and waited at the counter to order food. Don't really like to complain or nit pick. IDK-just a bad day. I guess. We were there for over an hour; kind of felt invisible.
I haven't been there for over 4 years. Ever since I found a bandage and/or cardboard create in my nuway. I didn't get to the surprise till 2nd half. I haven't been able to ever go back. Very unclean place. I reported it to the health department but they just replied back thank you. I haven't even eaten at any others since then as well.
Surprisingly delicious! Hit this spot up from a recommendation from someone that was raised in Wichita! Sounded kind of different, but the crumble burgers are delish, I don't normally drink root beer, but since they make it in house I have it a try and Yum!.. Oh and the young man working the dinning room was very knowledgeable and gave me the history of the joint! If I ever make it back to Wichita, I'll definitely stop in again! 5 stars all day!
It has always been good in the past but recently last week it wasn't. My glass was dirty , Lipstick prints on outside., particles floating in my root beer. A chunk of my meat was pink.Food: 1/5
Got the Bacon and Cheddar Nu Way and loved it! Never had a crumbly burger but now that I have, I need them in my life! The wait staff was so polite and charming. Our waitress even engaged me in a conversation about James Dean when she saw me take a pic of the mural. Next time I'm in Wichita I'm sure to go back!
