NW Montana Veterans Stand Down and Food Pantry

About

There is a saying that for every homeless Veteran you see, there are 10 in the woods you don't see. It's time we did a service for our Veterans.

Description

The North West Montana Veterans Stand Down & Food Pantry is dedicated to extending a helping hand up to homeless, low-income and at-risk veterans and their families. These heroes have sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution and people of the United States of America. Now we must uphold them in their time of need.

We administer a multi-faceted program designed to accommodate each client’s unique circumstances. Our mission is to offer wraparound services to our qualifying veterans through the many aspects of our organization which include:

Raising community awareness to and advocating for the unmet needs of veterans.
Nourishing hungry veterans and their families with nutritional food boxes.
Equipping homeless and newly housed veteran households with clothing and furnishings.
Outreaching as many veterans as possible through our biannual Stand Downs.
Helping clients obtain Veterans Affair benefits and medical system enrollment.
Providing veteran to veteran peer counseling and referrals to homeless shelters, housing, jobs, VA medical clinics, mental health specialists and other community resources.
Building self esteem by extending a helping hand up NOT a hand out; we provide a warm welcome, haircuts by appointment, access to laundry & shower facilities and hot coffee.
Achieving Allen’s vision of the first Homeless Veterans Housing Facility in the Flathead Valley. We envision a Grand Opening in 2016!

Mission

The North West Montana Veterans Stand Down & Food Pantry is dedicated to providing a helping hand up to homeless, low-income and at risk veterans and their families.
We support the men and women who have sworn to up hold and defend the Constitution and people of the United States of America and their families that are homeless, low-income and at risk.
Our vision of services to homeless, low-income, and at risk veterans and their families includes these elements.
*Community awareness to the unmet needs of homeless, low-income and at risk veterans and their families.
*We provide emergency food boxes on a monthly basis taking into account the size of the family, income level and cooking facilities.
*The Clothing outlet provides clothing, shoes and boots, household items, blankets, bedding, and furniture.
*Referrals to homeless shelter and housing, peer counseling and referrals to VA medical clinics, mental health specialists and other community resources as needed. Help to obtain Veterans Affairs benefits and enroll into the medical system.
*Constant self esteem building just by giving a "helping hand up" NOT a hand out.
*Enhance the infrastructure of NWMVSD&FP, including full-time staff, office space and an expanded clothing outlet to provide adequate access to everyone.
