Attempted to file a dispute after I was audited for taxes from 3 years ago. I was told disputing online was the fastest way. 2 weeks went by with no response. I spent several hours attempting to speak to a person on the phone. The automated message kept telling me the information I entered the exact same information on the bill they mailed me was wrong. After typing in the *correct* number 3 times, it hangs up on me. Called a different number & waited an hour to speak to someone, just for them to transfer me to someone else which took another hour! The real life human being I finally spoke to told me if I don’t pay my bill I will be charged interest DAILY, regardless of whether NYS responded to my dispute or not! I was not provided the interest rate or the threats of daily interest on my bill. I was also given 3 weeks to pay them $500. You want to charge me daily interest? How about I charge YOU for the 5+ hours I spent dealing with your website crashing & waiting on hold?? An absolute joke. New York is not for the people in any way. I sort of want to work at the tax office so I can sit around twiddling my thumbs & ignoring people all day.

Somehow owe NYS over $500 in taxes when my husband and I lived there for one month and didn’t even make that much money. When my husband called to ask how this is possible they were useless and basically said we owe them the money and that’s it. They will get our money only so we don’t screw up our credit, but I cannot explain how happy we are to be rid of this TOXIC state!!! Moving to the south was THE BEST decision we have ever made!!! This will be the LAST penny they ever get from us!

So when am I going to get my return??? I paid extra in taxes to make sure I didn't owe. I filed February 6th, then sent out both W-2's cause you wanted to make sure. Now give me my $1,100 that you owe me. I can't contact anyone cause they are all automatic messages. And you are too scared to actually tell people through the phone that you don't want to give the extra money that I PAID ALL YEAR. Feel free to contact me.

I have called over 30 times over the span of several months, at different times of day, just to speak to someone. You’re not even given the option to hold, it just ends the call. How are you “busy helping other callers” when absolutely no one can get through? How does an organization that demands your communication impossible to get ahold of? I’m literally unable to pay my bill despite incessant attempts - how is that even legal?

I filled out TY 2021 tax forms completely, and truthfully. I should have received a response. However, when I did reach a person, the first response was for me to resubmit my W2 and incomes. I did. Finally, I spoke with a person I think, who told me that "I failed to report receiving Unemployment insurance. I responded that I did not report it, because I NEVER received any benefits! I still have not received my refund. The problem is that without those expected funds, I was not able to work in my landscaping business. I was unable to pay my insurance or permits. I did not have an income, and lost two storage units, my phones are off, and I walk every day to collect recyclables, like plastic, cans, and glass. I filled out the tax documents and signed the documents. If I signed someone else's name, then I would be guilty of forgery. NO? I say the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance is guilty of forgery by changing the numbers on the documents that I filled out and signed. Plus, now my life is so miserable. 3 generations of coin and stamp collections were in the storage units, among other valuable family heirlooms. I need help recovering these funds as quickly as possible before my life is completely over. But I cannot get through to someone who is going to do something to fix the problem.

I think this place should be re-evaluated, respectfully. I’ve been trying to get in contact with a representative, it has been an impossible task. The auto-voice just circles back to the main menu. The waiting time for a call to be answered is 50mins or more that’s if they do. I hope that interventions are implemented into restructuring the management of this place.

Would give 0 stars if possible. Been given three different phone numbers and transferred to over 20 different people all to try and get a penalty issue taken care of. Horrible service. All everyone does is answer the phone, take your info and transfer to you the next person to do the same thing.

Filed over 240 days ago. Every time I call, I am told to wait 30 more days. How is this constitutional? This agency is allowed to withhold as much money for as long as they like while your money loses value. They pay no penalty or interest on this money and there is no accountability at all. Who is running this agency?

An absolute joke. I filed my taxes in April as I have for the last 10 years. Never received any requests for additional information previously. They sent a notice in July asking for copies of W2 forms which were already submitted in the original filing. I sent them in the next day. It's now mid September and I am still waiting for an acknowledgement that my refund will be processed. I called and they said the processing time is still considered within the normal timeframe. It's approaching 6 months. Glad I am not relying on this money to survive. This department needs to be investigated immediately as it seems like they are using money that belongs to taxpayers to float the state.

Worst place to deal with here it is end of 2022 and they send me a letter saying I owed 807.34 from back in 2019? I called irs to see what happened as I was told by NYS that there was a amended return done which from my knowledge and the irs there wasn’t anything like that ever filed for me ever.. I sent proof in with irs transcripts and they denied it 3 times 2 from me and 1 from IRS and said I had to pay the entire amount or they would put a hold on any and all future refunds and collect interest for every day it’s not paid. I got 218.22 back from NYS in 2019 but somehow it turned into they overpaid me 807.34 ‍ I genuinely hate this state!
