A beautiful experience camping here. Sacred land of the Apache. You can feel the power of this place if you quietly sit and listen. Very clean amazing places for a hike. Please remember to leave no trace. This area is at risk of being destroyed be a foriegn mining company looking for copper. Please Save Oak Flats!
My favorite camping spot. Free, always camping space, always toilet paper in the 2 decently clean toilets, especially the one farther away. Bring trash bags. Please don't cut up the surrounding oak trees for fire wood as I have witnessed this happening and noticed the lower branches being cut off. There is plenty of vegetation but due to the recent fire I wouldn't trust the purity of it as flame retardant could have landed on top. Lots of beautiful life and you can feel the power and sacredness. I sure hope Oak Flat is safe from the destruction of the local mine resolution copper. It would be really depressing if my future generations wouldn't be able to visit.
Good spot for hiking, with fantastic scenery, however campground is old and is in desperate need of weedwhacking and dead brush removal. A couple vault toilets is all there is.That said we found a nice spot. It was clean with no trash. Lots of wildlife, coyotes, toads, and tarantulas. Quiet at night with good views of stars.
Plenty of space, can hear road noise but good for a couple nights if visiting Superior
Couldn't get all the way in b/c the road flooded a little you could cross in a truck so i camped at the first spot. The highway noise isn't too bad, almost silent at night, though the mine access road picks up traffic-wise in the daytime. The landscape is pretty unique at Top of the World, worth the view. Saw a bright-coated cardinal and other feathery friends. Some trash here and there but nothing major.
Situated on the sacred grounds where the Apache celebrated women's coming of age, this is a gem of a campground. Room enough for a 36' fifth wheel. There are restrooms, but no other services. Watch out for flooding at the western end of the site.
Fun camping spot in the high desert in the oaks. Easy access from the US60 outside of Superior Arizona. Vault toilet and many established camping spots. First come first served. Also has an unofficial overflow to the west in the field/meadow off to the right. RV, trailers and tiny houses would easily fit.
The campground is limited as its been political hotbed for years between Rio Tinto Mining and the rights of the Apache Native Americans Tribe.
There is no fee for staying here because they can't charge you for a site that floods, has no host, and no toilet paper in the bathroom. Only if necessary.
Really enjoyed my stay there. Not a lot of great campsites, but the one we got was perfect. Big shade trees and even a stream flowing from recent rains.
