About

Oak Grove Plantation ( Circa 1800) Past & Present - Working toward the future, but can't help but add tidbits from the past.See info page for description.

Description

Oak Grove Plantation (The John Edward Bankhead Home) was built around 1800. Taken from the book "Historic Sites Survey Chester County" - "It was a six room house with a fireplace in each room, lower and upper porches with four box columns of that period on each. The front doors and double doors leading from the hallway to the kitchen are put together with wooden pegs. The stairway is hand carved and leads to an impressive landing." The A. J. Cloud Family lived here in the 1800's. Their great nephew was Doc Holliday the famous gambler who stood with Wyatt Earp at the O.K. Corral on October 26, 1881. The home was one of the few houses that Shermans troops did not burn in their march through the area. About 1978, when re-wallpapering an upstairs bedroom, writing was discovered on a back wall of the house that had a statement of the celebration being held at the house due to getting the crops in - dated late 1700's. John Edward Bankhead and Sallie Gibson Bankhead moved in the home in early 1950's. Ed and Sallie's ancestors settled in this area in the 1700's. Ed passed away in 1989 and Sallie passed away in 2009.
At this time we are continuing to improve Oak Grove and it's grounds.

We've stayed at a lot of campgrounds and this one is definitely one of our favorites. The prices are more than reasonable and the property is beautiful. It's the perfect place to be if you like to be in the country. We enjoyed visiting with all of our neighbors and the property owners are wonderful people who take care of their residents. We'll definitely stay here again.
We recently stayed here as my husband is traveling for work. You couldn’t ask for a better place to stay. The campground owners are absolutely awesome and will help you any way they can. It is very peaceful and beautiful. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay or just passing through!
This is a great place to stay I was a resident for several months. The campground is very clean quiet and reasonably priced. Mickey is a great guy and runs a first class place. Keep in mind they are located adjacent to one of the premier sporting clay ranges in the South. If the sound of gunfire upsets you then this might not be the place for you
Loved it here! Our stay was just to short. The owners, well you were treated like family. Mr. Mickey always smiling. They just made you feel welcome. The park is beautiful, peaceful, sites large. You really need to check it out for yourself.
They are good people, who don’t mind helping you enjoy your stay. They made their ponds easily accessible for us to fish, Bush hogged around the banks so we could pull down to the waters edge, since we have an infant. They even brought us a baked good on the 4th of July. I don’t have a single complaint.
We stayed at oak grove for most of 2017 and loved it! The owners are some of the nicest people you will ever meet and they go out of their way to be accommodating and welcoming. The sites are not stacked on top of each other like some camp grounds and the beautiful country setting is relaxing and peaceful. We recommend Oak Grove Plantation Campground to everyone we know working and staying in the area and will definitely stay there again next time we are in town!
Oak Grove is a nice, quiet RV campground. The spots are level and spaced apart nicely. It's a great camping spot to bring your family. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly. They have full hook ups and can accommodate larger rigs. Pet friendly!
Great campground the owners are very nice Mickey and his son Michael go above and beyond to meet your needs there. They just upgraded the campground with new sawer piping and just recently drilled a new water well. There is a sport clay range next door that guest are allowed to use.
Great place to stay long term or just for the weekend. Great owners will do anything to help you an make ya feel right at home. I would recommend this campground to anybody that was looking for a relaxing weekend. Nice lakes to fish in and a nice place to take an evening walk to settle down your super.
We are currently staying here. Owner goes above and beyond to accommodate. Grounds are quiet and well kept. Spaces are gravel and fairly level. Full hook ups very reasonably priced.
