Oak Ridge is a public Pre-K through 5th grade school.
As a people, we know that every community or building has its own story to tell. This story is often one with ups and downs, trials and successes. This cliché is no different than that of our very own Oak Ridge Elementary. And the story goes……
In September of 1969, Oak Ridge Elementary began to service the educational needs of students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The site was designed with an open concept to provide a quality education to the students of Leon County. To ensure that the site could meet the needs of the students and the community it served, Leon County developed the school on 21.8 acres in Southeast Tallahassee. Upon opening, the school was surrounded by large oak trees that would later be cut down and replaced with pine trees; the name “Oak Ridge” stuck however and to this day Oak Ridge Elementary is a school of pride, responsibility, and respect. To evolve over time, the building has grown and several upgrades have been made to ensure that educators and students, alike, have all tools and materials needed to be successful. The open concept has since been closed off and several individual classroom now occupy that space. In addition, two adjoining wings have been added to address the growing population. Over the years, many students have walked the halls of Oak Ridge, and shown various levels of success. Levels ranging from academic excellence, to leadership formal/ informal, and even athletics. Many teachers have started their extensive careers at Oak Ridge and have gone on to excel and become leaders in all areas of our District. Some say the “special” is in the water at “The Ridge”, but honestly the special is in the beliefs we, as a school, and community share.
Today, Oak Ridge Elementary continues its strong tradition of developing and exceeding the educational journey of the students it serve, through engaging , safe and respectful learning opportunities that prepare its students of today for the requirements and demands of the world tomorrow. The motto at Oak Ridge continues to be “Take Flight and Soar to New Heights”.
