**Only a SIX week Program!**
The Certified Nursing Assistant program is offered through the Oakland University’s School of Nursing- Continuing Education. This course provides basic fundamental nursing skills, and state certification as a Nursing Assistant. Students must complete 100 hours to successfully complete this program. As a nurse assistant, you will perform the tasks given to you by the nurse.
After you finish the training program, you will be able to perform the following hands on patient care procedures with supervision in the following areas:
--Daily care including bathing, feeding, and dressing
--Vital sign measurement
--ROM exercises
--Admit, transfer and patient discharge
--Application of hot and cold treatments
--Specimen collection
--Care of the dying person
--Care of the patient of chronic illnesses
--Safety with transferring and ambulation

This course provides skills necessary for patient care delivery and can prepare you to work in an expanded role with registered nurses. This is an excellent preparation for entry into any nursing program. Students must complete 312 hours to successfully complete this program.

**Only a ONE yr program!**
The Practical Nursing Program prepares non-traditional students for success with patients and healthcare communities they serve with their education, experience, and passion for nursing. The program prepares students through academic and clinical training to provide supervised direct nursing care in a variety of health care settings.
Upon successful completion of the practical nursing program requirements, students will have completed 1246 contact hours, earning a non-credit Certificate of Completion, and will be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Successful completion of this examination qualifies the graduate for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and the ability to practice in the State of Michigan. Graduates are also eligible to take the National Association of Practical Nurse Educational Services (NAPNES) Pharmacology Certification Examination, which affords the graduate to administer medications within various employment settings.
Upon completion of the Practical Nursing Program, the graduate will be able to do the following: (1)Demonstrate synthesis of knowledge in the application of nursing process to the collaborative practice of nursing under the supervision of a RN, physician or a dentist. (2) Apply ethically grounded clinical judgment supported by policies and procedures in making decisions about the provision of nursing care. (3) Demonstrate effective communication skills and proficiency in information management and technology by delivering safe, effective, and cost efficient nursing care based on current best practices. (4)Demonstrate adherence to the Michigan Licensed Practical Nursing Association (MLPNA) Standards of Practice when delivering nursing care across the life span to diverse client populations in a wide variety of settings.
