Description

Ocean Beach Volunteer Fire Company was started in May 1951 where the original fire engine was stored in a gas station in the Chadwick Beach section of the Island. The Fire Company was originally named the Old Chadwick Fire Department.

It was later changed to Ocean Beach Volunteer Fire Company when Mr. Edward Patnaude Sr. donated the land to where the building now stands. Once the fire company became known as Ocean Beach Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 of the Toms River Fire District 1 it also is recognized in Ocean County as Station 27.

The building was later remodeled in 2001-2002 to it's current state. The dedicated volunteers answer approximately 300 fire calls annually which include, fire alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, fires of any kind, motor vehicle extrication, hazardous material incidents and water rescues both in the Atlantic Ocean and the Barnegat Bay.

The company answers approximately 300 calls a year including fires, motor vehicle accidents, and water rescues for the Toms River sections of Barnegat Island along with mutual aid to neighboring communities.

The fire company is staffed by approximately 30 volunteers who answer the alarms and is supplemented by the 19 members of the Ladies Auxiliary who assist at major incidents,various fund raisers, and community events.
