It is not a question of if you should go to Off Leash K9 Training, the answer is Yes. It will come down to what program they offer that will be the best for you and your pup. You are with the best with Russ and Laurie! Let me first start by giving you a little background on myself and my dog Sadie an eight and a half year old Aussie mutt mix. I adopted Sadie when she was only 5 weeks old. The only pup in her litter of four to survive being ditched in a box on one of the record hottest days in the county she was pathetic looking. She was hardly 4 pounds, with a little rat tail and an awkward facial twitch, she stole my heart the second I saw her, and because of that she was spoiled rotten. Because of various circumstances I could control but didn’t or circumstances I didn’t know how to control Sadie was raised without proper socialization with other dogs and no real obedience. The older she got the more I proactively avoided situations that could possibly compromise Sadie and her growing fears of everything. Now she is a very sweet dog to those she became comfortable around but those are few people much less fur friends. She would bark and growl anytime someone would come to the door, people would pass her while we walked, another dog or any animal for that matter would be in her sight, heck even down to a brisk wind. Scared of everything but she expressed it in an aggressive manner. Never owning a dog before her I did not raise and training her correctly, obviously, but worse I was not addressing her issues correctly or fairly to her. That is why I am so eternally grateful when we met Russ. Let me reiterate I did a lot of research when I decided to put Sadie in obedience school, I called a lot of places, I was terrified she was too old, I was worried she wouldn’t be the same Sadie to me because obedience training would make her too obedient Yes I know how that sounds but again, I love my Sadie bug. First you will speak to Laurie, who is one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to speak to, she is knowledgeable and honest. We spoke probably four or five times before I even met Russ. We exchanged stories of our dogs, I expressed my slightly excessive concerns, she hands down was the best first step knowing I was going to be working with someone who is just as compassionate and concerned for the welfare of their dogs as I was. After our initial meet and greet with Russ and discussing our options I decided to go with the 8 session Basic and Advance training. Because of her age and my lack of knowledge I needed Russ to train me as much as Sadie needed the training. Russ is fantastic. He is smart and knowledgeable yes, but what I appreciated the most is he is intuitive of how every dog/owner relationship is different. He knows exactly what to hone in on to help tailor the training to your specific needs and corrections. At the age of eight and a half Sadie went from a crazed retractable leashed dog that walked in front of me like a mad man, growling and barking at any and everything to a dog that trust her owner. The trust in me was the key part for Sadie and every dog, and I needed Russ to train me in that aspect just as much as Sadie needed the training. Overall I could not be more happy with Sadie’s outcome, she gets more walks, more stimulation which in turn makes her happier because she is getting the exercise she needs and I am not scared to walk her or take her to public events.
We used Russ and Off Leash training for both puppy training and the Well behaved dog program. I was a little concerned if it would be worth the money, it definitely was. Our Golden Doodle now listens and is very easy to handle. Our 5 year old grandson told the dog to 'Place' one of the commands and the dog listened and did what she was told. I would recommend Russ and Off Leash K9 training to anyone.
Updated review: cody is now 1 1/2 yrs old. February 2020 We take off on our early morning walk around our neighborhood where I let him walk freely off leash. He chases a squirrel up the tree or flushes a flock of birds. He starts to get a little to far ahead so I put him in a distance sit where he waits patiently until I reach him. I give him the command to heal where he stays close until I release him. We come around the corner only to encounter a group of black cats, I remind him that he is in a heal and he walks right by ignoring the cats. We head out to the beach i give him the command “break” and he runs like the wind. He heads toward the water, I give his remote a tap and he steers clear. He is too far to hear my voice, I tap the remote again he stops on a dime, turns and runs as fast as he can right to my feet where I have him sit. Other dogs are everywhere, he does not move unless I tell him he can. I could go on and on about how amazing my relationship is with my dog, but bottom line is I have never experienced such control with freedom. My dog is happy, I’m happy and I'm confident that I can stop him Quickly should I need to. Cody’s training has far exceeded anything I could have imagined. Don't get me wrong, we work on it everyday but everyday we are together I thank Off Leash K9 for giving us such a gift. It just gets better and better. Thank you Russ and Laurie Two Week Board &Train June 2019 "I have a 13lb, 6 month Australian CobberDog. It was important to me to have him well behaved and obedient. After 2 1/2 weeks he came home with a solid foundation of 12 very effective commands. I cannot say enough about how amazing the entire experience was. Russ sent me daily correspondence, videos, and photos on Cody's progress. I was in awe as I watched him improve. Russ's love and encouragement for both Cody and myself made 2 weeks fly by. Amazing experience, wonderful trainer, obedient dog!!!" So, whatever your fear or hesitation might be, let it go. Make the decision, you will not be sorry.
Straightforward, reliable, understandable trainer. He gets what makes dog ticks and how to make them good citizens. I no longer worry about my dog running off or into traffic. When I say come, she turns around and trots to my side. She is able to go everywhere with us without jumping, barking or running off.
Kooper age 7 is more fun after his training "Kooper, a 7 year old large golden, still acts as a puppy, but his high energy resulted in pulling on his lead, and enjoying ignoring some of our commands. He enjoyed car rides, but although he could jump 3 feet, he would only put his front legs in the car and wait for his back half to be lifted. After 2 weeks with Off leash K9 Training, he is amazing. Russ had to train us a bit apparently harder to do than to train Kooper. Now we do not need a lead for Kooper, and he jumps in the SUV!"
