Very nice campground area. Just about all the sites are paved with full hook up that will fit larger campers at a very reasonable cost. We were in area to visit family so was not able to see much of the park other than the “ghost structures”.
Very nice campsites! Very clean. Good drainage in case of heavy rains. Nice hookups. The dump station is not level, so we dumped at campsite. Rangers are all very nice and helpful. Check out visitors center and museum. All well-curated, for understanding the importance of the settlement for the area’s development.
There is a small trail around the lake 1-mile loop, and somewhat interesting historic exhibits both in the Visitor Center and nearby but somewhat lacking as a State Historic Site. They do have a hiking medallion and a stamp for the Arkansas State Parks Club 52 though. Since Davidsonville is no longer actually there, a couple of "Ghost Structures" were erected to symbolize the old courthouse and a residence. The site is important for being a very early Arkansas settlement that was originally a trading post on black river.
I’ve lived here my whole life and never thought of stopping by til I got a state park passport. Was pleasantly surprised.
Big spaces. Stayed in a few sites. Most of them are very shaded. Nice pond for fishing with a river at the end of the park. Can rent canoes too! Only drawback is the flies and mosquitoes.
The pavilion was great!! Plenty of room and the restrooms on the end were very clean. It was a great place to enjoy the wedding!!
Did you know Old Davidsonville was the very first 9 blocks in Arkansas? Or that it is the home to the very first post office and courthouse in Arkansas? Well now you do! I absolutely love all the history and educational opportunities this place has to offer. It is nice and quiet even with a campground full of people. The waters are calm and you can sit and watch the fish jump. Not only is the park very well taken care of but so are the campsites and bathhouse. The visitor center has a boat you can go inside of and look at things you would have seen back when they where settling here in Arkansas. Don't forget to pick up a state book and stamp it while you're in there! The Rangers are extremely helpful at answering any questions you may have and if you buy firewood from them they will deliver to your campsite for you! Which I definitely suggest doing because 1 you're putting money back into our state park and 2 you're not bring in bugs that aren't from this area which could cause a terrible amount of damage in a short amount of time. They also offer canoes to rent and have some beautiful trails to hike. They even have a playground to let your little ones run around and tire down. Not too far from walmart in Pocahontas if, unfortunately, you forget something; but far enough where you don't hear all the traffic from the city. We definitely plan on coming back to camp here in the near future!
Davidsonville State Park is very close to Lake Charles and Powhatan State parks so you can get your AR State Passport stamps all in one day. This is a very nice little historical park with neat exhibits including the first town in AR that is nicely laid out in a short hike. The staff was very pleasant and knowledgeable. We did not go camping here we stayed at Lake Charles but the campground looked very good with the normal facilities available for RVs.
We always have a great time at Old Davidsonville! The visitor center has a wonderful display with a boat you can go on and artifacts found on site. The park staff are friendly and helpful and the picnic areas have all been updated in the last few years. Hiking trails, two playgrounds and the historic site with lots of interesting information make this one of our absolute favorite parks!
Very nice campground. But one night we were the only campers. Under-used park.
