My girlfriend and I stopped by this small bakery today.... It was our first time in.. she had a slice of cherry pie and I had a cinnamon roll they were very fresh and delicious. We really hated to hear that they are closing February 23rd... If you haven't been.. I recommend you try it before the doors are closed...
So my family and I fell in love with this place ever since they opened their doors 6 years ago. We've had their cinnamon rolls, croissants plain, chocolate, hazelnut, sausage kolaches, cookies, cupcakes, slices of pie & loaves of bread many times over. But the caveat of every visit was to pick up one of their variety kolaches. Family favorites include Cream Cheese, Cherry, Apple, Cream Cheese and Chocolate, Blueberry & Blackberry. Sweet potato, Pumpkin, Strawberry, Prune were also good. We're disappointed to hear about the end of the business, but it was awesome to have been a spectator to the impact they've had on the community. To the Baker; if you ever decide to open up a family-run bakery, know that you'll have a returning customer!
Found this place from a 2018 Houston news station review of best kolaches! I didn’t like the choices at the time so I opted for a cookie and sausage kolache. I was not impressed personally, but it was only one visit. The sausage had a good flavor, but the pairing with the bread choice was not something I would do again. Maybe a different meat or fruit choice? The cookie was good and had a nice touch with the large chocolate kisses on top. Maybe a future visit, I can try something different and would change my opinion.
I love their Apple Strudel and so does my parents and their pies are great too. But I'm sorry to tell y'all that The Old Main Street Bakery owner is closing down on February 23, 2020. I read his notice inside the bakery and I understand what he typed on his notice and I understand on his decision! You need to fulfill your dreams and go for it!! I will miss the bakery and my mom too. But I do wish him pastry chef to fulfill your life...go for what you think is right for you!!
Their Kolaches are fabulous!! High quality sausage inside and lots of cheese. Their coffee is good too! We didn't try anything else but it all looked amazing!
The kolachies are fantastic and their pumpkin roll is wonderful but I usually go to get a loaf of the sourdough bread and a loaf of the whole wheat bread. Unfortunately on February 23rd this place will close. I think the owner is moving away.
Got there close to opening as the internal lights were still off. Ordered a cream cheese and a poppy seed kolache. They were warm, fresh, soft and tasty. The sausage/cheese kolachies would have been better warmed, but was not offered that option. Will definitely return.
Kolaches are pretty decent, however i'm surprised that the employees don't ask to warm them up for you. No offense but I don't want to eat a cold kolache while on the road, it doesn't taste good cold because I had to experience that today.
I visited Saturday Oct. 12th, 1:51pm. There is an artisan market going on and you would think they would have fresh baked goods. I got a red velvet cupcake, my son a frosted sugar cookie, and 2 apple kolache. The cupcake was hard and dry and the frosting tasted like the refrigerator. The kolaches that this bakery has been written about and raved about, was dry and stale. My son said his cookie was fine, but the icing was dull not shiny like a decorated cookie normally looks. Totally disappointed. Don’t think I would come back or recommend this bakery to anyone.
The kolaches are made the old fashion way, not too sweet or fluffy. A good sweet bread with fresh fruit on top. Nothing could be better. I have heard wonderful news about the klobasniki and can't wait to try one this weekend along with some fresh bread.
