Dance school in lower westchester offering various types of dance classes: Jazz Hip Hop, Ballet, Ballet Pointe, Tap, Lyrical and Modern!
Ballet:
Ballet classes are offered from a beginner level through advanced. Students are taught proper body placement, body alignment, barre and center floor work, along with across the floor combinations. Beginner classes introduce vocabulary, proper alignment, and classical ballet technique. Advanced classes include adagio and allegro work, and combinations using balance, strength, and style. All students are urged to study ballet, as it is the foundation of all other dance styles and facilitates further success in these disciplines.
Lyrical/Contemporary:
This expressive form uses technique borrowed from the Ballet, Jazz and Modern. In Lyrical/Contemporary Dance, the quality of the movement is closely connected to the music and the interpretation of the lyrics. Students will not only work on technique, but also work on performance quality through use of expression by telling a story.
Modern:
Form and technique are drawn from dance pioneers José Limón, Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham and Lester Horton among other contemporary choreographers. Students will learn principles of these techniques such as fall and release, control, breath, balance, contraction/release and improvisation. Class consists of a warm-up, center barre work, traveling series and combination.
Tap:
Tap is a style of American theatrical dance, distinguished by percussive footwork and rhythms. Our tap classes stress the basics of tap while also teaching musicality and rhythm. Students will gain a large vocabulary of steps as well as learn how to use them in improvisation.
Hip Hop:
Hip Hop Is a high energy class that introduces the students to many styles of street dancing like popping, locking, breaking etc., as well as a more commercial representation that is currently found in music videos and concerts. These classes encourage the students’ to bring their personality and individuality to the movement as well as the choreography. Warm up includes isolations, strength training, flexibility training and a concentration on footwork. This class helps build stamina as well as an awareness of body, musicality and performance.
Jazz:
Jazz focuses on learning proper jazz dance technique such as isolations, turns and jumps, and developing choreographically in complex rhythms and patterns with high energy and attitude. This class focuses on musicality as well as a flawless transition from sharp precise movements to a more smooth and commercial quality of jazz. Students are expected to have a good foundation and understanding of classical technique as well as an enthusiasm and flair for performance and presentation.
