Came here for lunch. Couldn't settle on what we wanted. They have great lunch specials. So we tried the mac-n-cheese with andouille sausage, fish and chips and the PoBoy sandwich with shrimp. The mac-n-cheese is where it's at. It was perfect. The PoBoy w/shrimp was amazing. The bread was soft and fresh. Customer service was great. Very knowledgeable staff. Highly recommemd.
This was my very first time ever coming to this place and my friend recommended it and definitely was impressed. They have an awesome michelada and even the Margaritas are very good, we tried there clam chowder which was creamy and thick and I really love that they have very fresh oysters which were just so good, there was pretty late when we showed up so we didn't order very much but I will definitely go back and try different things. And at the end they give you a bottle full of soap and water and they add dry ice at the end and Bubbles come out and you can wash your hands like that which is pretty awesome.
My wife and I have been coming here since they opened. It is time I speak about this hidden La Habra GEM! Every time we come here we get treated like family. The owner Lisa is friendly, helpful and cares about her customers and customer service. Other managers and wait staff have been awesome and helpful. Yesterday, we were delighted to meet her newest acquisition Romero, he is an asset to the restaurant. Knowledgeable, honest and eager to make your experience a memorable one. Now, let’s get into the food.... it is not fast food, it is made to order. So, you will wait a few minutes for your food but trust me it is worth every minute!! Their happy hour is great with delicious drink specials $1 oysters and 89 cent wings... the All hooked up wings are phenomenal. Do yourself a favor and try the All Hooked up Clam Chowder!!!! A culinary delight. If you have not had lunch or dinner at On The Hook, you are missing out! Give this team a chance to impress you with their service and food. We are not culinary experts by any means... but we know great service and we enjoy food!!!
Sunday evening dinner at 6:30pm. Our 1st time here. Place was busy, but No Wait. We ordered grilled shrimp platter, Chicken Po'Boy, & Fried Catfish. Delicious! Catfish in particular was crispy-not greasy. Breading was well seasoned and thin, which complimented the fluffy fish within. Home-made roumalade was spectacular, but on the spicy hot side. Cool coleslaw was perfect. Didn't have drinks this visit, but they have a good selection. Service- extremely attentive & friendly.
A different sort of seafood place with a Cajun flair. Fish and Chips are good but not their best meal. Try something spicy and New Orleans, like the Jambalaya. They also have the boiled bags of seafood. Spicy here really means spicy, if you get the Jambalaya don't get hotter than medium the first time, it is very spicy. Portions are generous. Sandwiches are very good. Good assortment of beers on tap.
On the hook is not fancy but it is very clean, the staff is very very friendly and attentive. I have never ever tasted fish-and-chips this delicious, the portions are humongous. 3 gigantic pieces of beer battered fish that are so light and crunchy and the Cod inside is so fresh and Flaky. this is my number one to go place now for fish and chips. Nowhere else can even hold a candle to on the hook.
The staff is friendly and this is a great place for large groups. The last time I ate here the clams hadn't been washed thoroughly and so there were grains of sand in almost every bite. Didn't ruin the dining experience but boy that was a bummer.
Went for my birthday and had the WORST experience I've ever had at a restaurant! I went with my father and walked in tonight at 7pm. We were told around 7:45pm that our order ticket had dropped on the floor and they had not even started cooking it. This was disappointing since we were literally the only table that came in after others already had their food, and continued to be the only table waiting for food. Strike one. We said ok, we'll wait. My father's food came out before mine remember we're a party of 2. I ordered the mild jambalaya since past reviews stated that their spicy was extreme and I wanted just a little kick, so I understand it may take longer than a grilled fish. Received my meal shortly thereafter and my jambalaya tasted like a tomato-based stew. There was a ton of rice, but the sausage and shrimp seemed to be cooked well. I asked for some hot sauce, so I can spice it up to my taste. I was told by the waiter that he didn't recommend it since it would mess with the seasonings they use and he can "re-toss" it to make it a bit spicier. When he returned with the plate, it went to a whole nother extreme. It went from no spice in the mild to burning my throat, making my nose leak, upsetting my stomach, and going through 2 sweet teas in the 3-4 bites I attempted. It was inedible to me! I had to return it. Strike two. But the worst, is when the waiter returned the dish- given the small nature of the restaurant- I could hear the other staff state "oh she can't take our heat!" and making remarks of me sending back the food and laughing. Do you realize that we can hear what you say from the kitchen? At no point in time did the manager address the multiple issues or give us a discount except obviously not charging for the jambalaya since I didn't eat it. It's a disgrace that the food was inedible, but for the staff to be this disrespectful especially on my birthday sickens me. Strike three. We're done! I will never come back to this place. There are plenty of other fish grills in the area that have amazing food. If you're looking for a great jambalaya, the paellas at Moro's Cuban restaurant in La Habra is amazing!
Lobster was Very Good including the Garlic Butter, and the Clam Chowder excellent! The rest of the Food was Good. Personally I don't like the cornmeal crunch on Our Po Boy Fried Fish of anykind. I love Beer Batter or Tempura Batter on any Seafood. The Mac n Cheese is Mediocre at Best. Don't waste Your time ordering it. However, the Beignets were excellent! Service from My Server was Newb. Crawfish is out of season and they didn't have Dungeness Crab. Other than that it was Decent.
Not too shabby! Pretty on par with boiling point now. I can not complain about the service or the price. Everything was decent but nothing was knock me off my feet. I was hapy to come here with my family and they had kid friendly options also. The bubble hand wash is fascinating. they should use that everywhere.
