Ok, so yeah, it's expensive. But the gems you can find in here are worth it. You're not gonna get the price you would if you were dumpster-diving in East Hampton or going to the Salvation Army in Astoria, but hey, not all of us have time for that! You can't compare this place to thrift stores, it will seem outrageous. it's comparable to say, Beacon's Closet or Buffalo Exchange. I have sold vintage in London, UK, and been a sceney hipster in all the expected places so I know how to get weird/cool cheap clothes. But for something really special, this is the place. Over the years I have gotten some amazing things here that I love--amid the many styles for the 40+ Montpelier set--Chico's, Eileen Fisher, J. Jill--there are some classic vintage styles and some weird hipster finds. I have a funny tank top I got here that says "Jersey Girl" with a cheesy heart on it; I always get compliments on it from my 20something friends in London, Brooklyn, etc. I have gotten two coats here with fur trimmings, one from the 60's and the other from the 50's, and I got compliments every time I wear them. The first one I bought from the old location, at a real steal, about $40. It was priced low I think because the collar was coming off. The second one was in mint condition, made me feel like a russian czarina, and only $130! I found the tag in the coat from when it was last sold, for $475 so that's an incredible deal. If you consign, then you'll frequently have a way to get a pick-me-up when you're otherwise skint. It's not for everyone here, but well damn close. oh, and the staff are super helpful and friendly! dang, are those girls chatty. they are not just there to sell clothes, they are there to entertain...one girl working there, I think her name was Mazzy or Masey, was just super cool and we talked for maybe half an hour about how to dress for a big bum, without her trying to force clothes down my throat. so much better than places that barrage you with questions and then look sore when you leave without anything.
High-end??? How about NOT asking $64 for something your consignor paid $24.99 for at T.J. Maxx? The management is way out of touch, and seems to love tacky clothing.
This is a great spot, mostly womens clothes, but they're always getting in great men's stuff
