Ontario Police College

Description

The Ontario Police College is located in Malahide Township, just east of Aylmer, in Elgin County in Southwestern Ontario, Canada.ProgramsWith very rare exceptions, all Police Officers in Ontario attend the college for their 13-week program in order to receive their Basic Constable diploma. Once they have received the Diploma and after they have been sworn in as Peace Officers, they can then work in the Province of Ontario as Police Officers. The College also offers advanced courses to experienced officers in many areas, such as forensics, fraud, motorcycle riding, and certifying police as instructors for in service training.HistoryThe Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police proposed the idea of a central provincial police academy in the early 1950s.The Attorney General appointed an advisory committee on police training in 1959. The college was established in 1962 and offered its first classes beginning January 7, 1963. The college is built on the grounds of the former Royal Canadian Air Force Station Aylmer, which was constructed as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan during World War II. The college moved to its present facilities in 1976. The Ministry of the Solicitor General was responsible for the operations of the OPC in 1972.

I came here to watch my son graduate, no matter what you think, this is still the beginning of many good natured volunteer careers. Great people who chose a field to put themselves between good and bad. I enjoyed some of the speeches especially on the recommendation that police should follow up a couple days on their own to victims who suffered from a crime who could be emotionally impacted. To just check up on them and show them that someone cares. I hope all these and future graduates keep this in mind. Take care out there people and please, be kind to one another!
Ah the prestigious Ontario Police College, the one place in Ontario that provides a wide assortment of training to people working in the field of law enforcement. However, if you want to work there and don't have a desk job or teaching job, it's a whole other story. First of all, it takes months to get anyone new hired because of all the bureaucratic nonsense going on and by the time you're cleared, you've probably moved on to another place. Then, if you do get in, you'll be swamped with work because everyone you work with, whether you're a janitor or work in the kitchen, likes to take off for extended periods of time, leaving you constantly short staffed and stressed out. Good luck getting a break. Oh also of note is that, yeah it's a government building, but nearly EVERYTHING is contract, so don't go in expecting full benefits and good pay because you don't work for the government, you work for the contractor. So unless you're there to get a desk job or teaching job, don't bother because it's a mess.
Food has improved a whole lot since I was last here. Mattresses are uncomfortable, facilities themselves are OK.
I wish to attend police training courses at this police training center so that I can protect the safety and comfort of the people of Canada and Toronto. Toronto/Fall-2019
