Our experience at open hands was great. The people there are great and so helpful and so kind they took our information down asked us a few questions the lady who took our information was so nice and so kind there is no word for these kind people they are people out there who still care about others Amen. After that they called our name we went upstairs and our groceries were ready and it was food that we love is like they knew what we love to eat they didn't look at us any different like other places would have they also help us load the groceries in the car. Thank you open Hands for making us for comfortable we will be back again if we are in need of help God bless you open hands.
Im only giving one star because of my volunteer experience. I was happy to help those in need. I had an unfortunate situation happen while volunteering. After Dennis showed me how to use the salad dryer , I bent down and started using it but I noticed him and another volunteer were standing over me talking. As a minority, it made me feel uneasy and uncomfortable, once I noticed what was going on I stopped immediately. I also noticed him helping the other volunteer hold down the dryer instead of me. Mary Beth was awesome and very informative.
One of the better food banks, they don't give out spoiled food and they have a pretty good system of giving it out. You have to live in Oakland County and you have to show proof that your low income. You can only come once a month. Be careful though, some people get really greedy, they will try to cut ahead of your number and say whatever it takes so they get the better share of the food. It's a shame some people are like that, but it does happen.
I love that when I donate to the resale shop the proceeds go to this food pantry which I understand feeds 1400 people a month. The resale shop had the best pricing of cool items. Things were very affordable. I had way too much fun shopping! ;
Its a good experience their very organized. They run out of meat pretty fast thou. If your a single person with no children like myself it's really not worth the trip
I had the privilege to volunteer at this lovely food bank. The people who are there regularly work hard to provide a needed service. It was a pleasure to be able to help.
Nice staff. Many helpful services to offer. A slight wait but it's expected and still quicker than most. Good for those in need...
Great people and I would have to say the BEST food pantry I have ever been to. Awesome variety of food and you are treated with respect and dignity.
