I honestly don't feel that this department even deserves one star. You need serious training and to learn compassion for others, especially for those with mental illness. Your duty is to protect and serve, not to leave someone helpless and stranded in the middle of the night with no form of communication, no shoes, no ID. You left Paulie to walk to his death. He should be here with us today, with his family and friends, instead all we have are memories. Your departments negligence cost an amazing, kind, full of life man to lose his life. He needed your help and you failed him. DO BETTER!
Paul should be here with our family today. I pray that you are educating LE and all first responders, in caring for those who live with a mental illness. And I hope that you are doing all that you can to let that community know that they will be safe in your hands going forward. Serve and Protect all people. Paul’s Mom, Forever 26
How can you think or write positive comments to a team that let's people with mental health challenges not be properly assessed, treated and take care of with dignity and respect. More importantly leave a person in a distressed emotional and physical state on the side of a road..........to die. What did they think would happen---sorry that wasn't thinking it was ignorance on their part as well as others, EMT/Paramedics, Hospital. The treatment of our friend and brother Paul Tarashuk was deplorable. There's too much ignorance and bias in the thin blue line. Their negligence is the reason Paul died. If it had been a civilian that did what he did, the civilian would be charged with criminal negligence, yet to date the officer and others have faced no consequences. CHANGE is Needed! Treat, Assess, Provide Safety for All.
Just learned about the incident with Paul Tarashuk. I have seen the body cam footage and have read the entire 72 page court document detailing the events and interactions surrounding this case. It is obvious that there is a serious problem within your organization in regards to training and policy when dealing with citizen mental health conditions. A simple investigation and return to Paul's vehicle would have revealed his identity and shed light on his condition. Apparently it was more important to point fingers and take the easy and irresponsible actions that lead to his death. I would not be suprised if Paul's missing clothing and dog were inside the cab of the truck he was climbing on. Too bad the EMS and all 3 law enforcement agencies were concerned about petty personal issues instead of concentrating on your oath to serve and protect. Inexcusable conduct on everybody's part. Do the right thing and hold these people responsible. Don't follow the typical example presented by government organizations and lie and cover-up the truth and dishonor the memory of an innocent young man.
Officer Brenda Ravenell contacted me about a friend who was stranded in Orangeburg on October 11, 2022. She did an extraordinary job of seeing that he was cared for, secured another vehicle, and enabled him to continue his trip. The friend, a Zen Roshi, was a bit out of his element and she was most skillful in assisting him.
your department killed a young man paul and you have not worked on training your department where I live kauai Hawaii my police department treats all out mental heath individuals with so much respect , when I saw the video of Paul I cried for a long time get some support call my police chief Ray he has a lot of aloha to share

These officers were awesome! I was a deranged avid Waffle Houser that wanted bacon and eggs and was refused so I had the entire squadron released on me. These guys gave me the last of their pizza and offered me rides. Hell ya!
All the way from NY to say yall are deadass TRIFLING. WALKED THAT YOUNG MAN TO HIS DEATH! I don't think I'll let y'all live this down. Shame.
