Tupelo...the rest of the story. Only at Oren Dunn City Museum!
The mission of Oren Dunn City Museum is “to collect, preserve, and exhibit the diverse history and heritage of Tupelo, Lee County, and Northeast Mississippi; and to engage and educate in an enriching and entertaining manner.” The museum was founded in 1984 by Curator Oren Dunn. He was successful in obtaining our current location in exchange that he receive $1 per year salary. He was no stranger to requesting donations from local businesses and individuals, thus the Tupelo City Museum was formed. Oren Dunn passed away in 1995 from a heart attack. The museum's name was changed shortly after to the Oren Dunn City Museum. We have an eclectic representation of artifacts from northeast Mississippi. We interpret the broad history of Tupelo, beginning with native fossils, to the Chickasaw nation and its impact upon our region. We have an original "Dogtrot" house built in 1870, the same year Tupelo became incorporated.
Our museum staff is eager to assist you in connecting with your past through exhibits, interpretation, and programs. This is your official invitation to "make history at Oren Dunn City Museum!"
