After living here for 30 years and always passing by, i grew interested in this place. Always told myself i would go for breakfast, but wasn't sure if it'd be worth it to go out of my way. However, my wife finally got me up to go. We missed breakfast, we thought, but got here just in time. Service was outstanding, yet the food beyond amazing. Really cool place with homemade yams and macn cheese to brag about. They even keep the hotcakes coming out, so breakfast all day. We will be back with others.
The price is right, but the food is wrong. There's MINIMAL selection, the eggs are pretty good in that you can have them cooked any way you'd like, if you're willing to pay for something other than fried or scrambled. The bacon tasted...off, and was burned. The grits probably wouldn't have been too bad...if they didn't charge you extra for some slices of cheese to put in 'em. They have hot cakes...but they're better at Golden Corral. I really don't know how or why anyone would eat the breakfast here unless they just love mediocre food.
Absolutely horrible. Went for breakfast this morning and it was awful. Biscuits hard as brick, gravy that tasted like pasty flour and eggs fresh out of a jug. I made the mistake of asking if they had any toast out...WRONG, Over $20 for me and my Son. I was a fan many years ago when it was the real deal, but new owners or not, don't waste your money. The 35 minutes or so we were in there, over half of that was standing up there just waiting on them to bring some more nasty food out. I will say the bacon was good, hard to mess up bacon..I only gave it a 1 star because a ZERO minus star wasn't available.
I have to say this place has come a long way! After the new owners took over there is such a difference in the atmosphere, food and service. They started renovating and finished the bathrooms not too long ago. They are gorgeous and I can't wait to see what they have planned next! They seem to be bringing Oscar's back to the way it use to be, if not better. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
A nice place for a Sunday afternoon buffet. There is an abundance of classic southern "soul food" every Sunday, and it always hits the spot! The establishment itself is in need of some work, but the food and the people are wonderful. The bathrooms are oddly stunning compared to the rest of the interior, and there is a lovely mural in the dining area.
Oscar's in Pensacola was an accidental and amazing find. This 70 year old staple is currently undergoing an update/renovation. I've only eaten the lunch, but I hear amazing things about the seafood. The Blue Plate consisting of what a snowbird might call "soul food" is GREAT! You'd be remiss by not making your choice of bread the cornbread; I asked for seconds and thirds and they gladly obliged. The best cornbread I've EVER eaten. I will save the story of the recipe for the new owner to tell. I couldn't do it justice. It's a must visit.
The price wouldn't be bad for the portion sizes. But the food is horrible and the waitresses seem like they shouldve retired decades ago. They aren't able to function properly as a server because of their age. Not discriminating at all but its hard to be a good server in your 60's. It also is filthy and really needs a deep cleaning.
i can NOT believe i went there and ordered there fried chicken and it came out COLD ! they took it back and put it in the microwave REALLY? when it came back out the second time , i had two bights and told the waitress that its not good and she can take it back . believe it or not i still had to pay for my meal! I understand your under new owners, but i can tell you from experience , if you continue to overlook or ignore these type of issues , the new owners will loose there ass QUICKLY! i will not be back !
Loved it! This place was in a terrible slide until the new owners took over. My visit was great, the food was wonderful and the prices very reasonable. I would highly recommend! I am glad that this historic restaurant has a new lease on life!
Great food for both breakfast and lunch. The buffet had quality food unlike a normal buffet. Jamie was our server and did an awesome job representing Oscar's. We will be back.
