Ottawa City Hall

Description

The current Ottawa City Hall is the city hall of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The downtown complex consists of two connected buildings: a modern wing located on Laurier Avenue and a 19th-century heritage wing located on Elgin Street. Although City Hall has frontage on two major streets, the main entrance is on Laurier Avenue, and the municipal address is 110 Laurier Avenue West.Veterans' GroveOn 5 November 1998, an area located beside Ottawa City Hall was named Veterans' Grove by Bob Chiarelli in honour of War Veterans from the Ottawa-Carleton Region. A pink granite memorial dedicated to the memory of Canadians who had enlisted in Ottawa for service with the Canadian Army Special Force and members of Canada's Regular Forces who made the supreme sacrifice during the War in Korea was moved to its current location in Veterans' Grove in 1998. It was originally unveiled on 27 July 1994 at the site of the old City Hall on Sussex Drive.Main buildingThe modern wing, which serves as the main section of City Hall, was designed by Raymond Moriyama and built in 1990 as the headquarters of the former Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. It is located between the Cartier Square Drill Hall and the Ottawa Court House. This section of City Hall contains the Council chamber (known as Andrew Haydon Hall), a large atrium and a number of offices and public services. The front of the building is marked by a large open plaza that faces Confederation Park across Laurier Avenue. The plaza is home to concerts, festivals, and other community events. The grounds have a number of features, including a sound sculpture, fountain and artificial ice-skating pad.

Ottawa city hall buildings are located in the heart of downtown Ottawa and is the location for various city services. Lots of people navigate the labyrinth of line ups to try and get things done and staff do seem to try their best to provide good services. However it is chaotic trying to find the right lineup to stand in and I strongly recommend that you ask the information desk at the start just to make sure you don’t waste time. The building itself is nice and has some pleasant artwork and galleries. There are also community events on the grounds that take place, such as; the skating rink during Christmas time. If you like my reviews, photos or videos then go to the hall and vote a like
Gotta Love Ottawa for getting behind great events like Salsa at City Hall happening Wednesday evenings . The rink of dreams transforms into a dance floor of memories. Hubby and I come with our lawn chairs and park next to the dance floor. Truly our lawn chairs sit empty most of the time as we hit the dance floor. Thank you to the organizers, the volunteers, the instructors, the djs and of course the city for getting behind this fun activity.
I went visiting Ottawa City hall because other travellers had recommended it. It was a big disappointment mainly because we didn't feel welcomed. A security guard and and what seemed to be an employee suspiciously asked my girlfriend and me what we were doing there. I have to add that a young security guard was nice to us when we first arrived. It's too bad because there is a nice art gallery. Not a great July 2023 experience. Je ne suis pas content.
Maybe it’s because it has been a while since I have been in this building, but I was quite struck by how clean and beautiful it was. Particularly the two galleries; One dedicated to the go train stations and another to local artists. There was also a group who had just sat down around the grand piano and we’re having a sing song. It was quite a pleasant experience and I felt proud that this was the building that represented our city. And underground indoor parking was free!
They have a lot of things going on here surprisingly. The day we went there was a salsa night. In the winters there's the rink of dreams. The parking lot is free after 6pm and on weekends. Definitely worth checking out because you never know what you'll see and experience next over here. Good job to the city for doing this.
Nice organized vaccinations/ immunization clinic was arranged there. City hall is a pretty busy and nice place for all other government services.
Stopped there to fill my water bottle. Security guard let me in. Well organized COVID vaccination inside.

On Monday, May 14th The Interlangues Team met with Ottawa City Mayor Jim Watson and presented him and his team with our IOttawa t-shirts! We were all very honoured to meet Mayor Watson and his staff. The building is beautiful and hosts lots of great events for all ages.
