Why get tested?
We recommend that anyone who is sexually active, uses IV drugs, or has had exposure to HIV, get tested every six months.
Get tested whether you are married, in a monogamous relationship, or participate in casual sex.
Our friendly, knowledgeable Counselors are on site to provide HIV prevention counseling and testing on. Services are free of charge with no appointment necessary. Of course, donations are always gratefully accepted.
In addition to normal retail operations, several Out of the Closet Thrift Stores offer free HIV testing and counseling in a private area of each store.
How Testing Works

Tests are performed by certified testing counselors, using the most advanced testing technology and test results are ready in 20 minutes or less. There is no more paperwork to fill out, and you can use our Touch Screens or iPads to complete your test!
Out of the Closet® is a nonprofit chain of thrift stores whose revenues provide medical care for patients with HIV/AIDS.
We are owned and operated by AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), a Los Angeles-based global organization that provides medical, preventative, and educational resources for patients. AHF is the nation's largest non-profit HIV/AIDS healthcare, research, prevention, and education provider. Out of the Closet thrift stores generate income to help fund the medical services AHF provides for those patients who are unable to pay. 96% of ALL proceeds from Out of the Closet Thrift Stores directly to to prevention, treatment and advocacy programs.
The store's merchandise comes directly from donations, and therefore the store's revenues are directly reliant upon neighborhood charity. Merchandise sold includes adult clothing, consumer electronics, furniture, bric-a-brac, jewelry, handbags, shoes, and books. Out of the Closet even provides a free pick up service for items that are too large for donors to bring to a store locations themselves.
Donations to Out of the Closet Thrift Stores help AHF clients, as those with HIV/AIDS directly benefit from the life saving medical care AHF provides. There are now 18 Out of the Closet locations throughout Southern and Northern California and Florida.
What else does OUT OF THE CLOSET offer?
In addition to offering clothing, accessories, furniture and mor, several locations also offer health and preventative services. Most locations including free walk-in, rapid HIV testing sites complete with counseling and referrals. Many locations are connected with an AHF Pharmacy, making shopping and prescription pick up convenient.
