I've had friends recommend Pinball museums before, but this is the best! You can learn all about the historic machines and play many of them too, all for the price of admission. Better yet if you go on Tuesday, it's heavily discounted!! I spent about 3 hours playing here with my son and we found it tough to leave. They've got a ton of tables from 1930's to today along with some context around the machines that helps you understand how the whole industry has evolved. It's worth a stop if you're on a vacation, if you're a local, if if you're just passing through.
I went to the Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda for the 1st time today. What a gem! Not only do they celebrate the history of pinball, but you can purchase a ticket to play all day with in/out privileges for a reasonable price. I took my daughter there a little before lunch and we played for an hour or so. We left, had lunch nearby and went home. Later in the day, we picked up her brother and came back and spent a couple more hours there. They have so many machines, spanning generations, each with a little history listed on or above the machine. Definitely is one of my favorite places to visit while in Alameda.
This is one of the most unique and cool places in the East Bay! It's a non-profit, and all the proceeds go towards running the museum and maintaining the machines in amazing shape. They have everything from modern games highly recommend the Addams Family machine! to original pinball machines from the 1930s! Also, $15 for a student discount ticket and all-you-can-play all day? We came in on a whim and spent over 3 HOURS playing all the games. Bring a friend and make it a competition for high scores! 10/10, I'll be back for sure!
This place is amazing. Everyone will find a favorite pinball machine here. Many of our favorites were the old ones as we loved hearing all the mechanical sounds. The AC/DC, Tales from the Crypt, Addams Family, and Ghostbusters were some of the best more recent ones. We initially allotted only spending 90 minutes here but ended up spending 2.5 hours instead. Staff is friendly. We went on a Tuesday afternoon. Not too crowded. Make time for this on your vacation or if you just live nearby.
Fun time and worth visiting. You get a wristband with in and out privileges. The museum has 100+ pinball machines set up in chronological order. Each pinball machine has a sign above with information about that specific machine. I really enjoyed playing the vintage pinball machines. There are multiple rooms to explore and try different pinball games, even a room with experimental machines including one that uses magnets to move the ball along a contoured surface. And the museum has plenty of educational resources, not just games. They also offer educational field trips where the staff can talk about the science, engineering, art, etc. that goes into making a pinball machine. On Tuesdays, they have a special deal: 2 players for $22. There are a few jukeboxes where you can play music. As souvenirs, they have a small version of a gift shop near the front and a pressed penny machine toward the back. It's a fun time for the whole family. If you arrive when they open on the weekdays, you'll have a higher chance of having the place to yourself. Cool interactive museum that's worth visiting at least once to play, learn, and go back in time.
Our family LOVED this place. All you can play pinball! Spent over 4 hours playing every game in the joint. Four rooms full of pinball machines of all ages and types. What a blast. Clean bathrooms too! 2 for $22 Tuesdays was super clutch. A trip highlight for sure!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20
If you haven't been here before, you really should. It's run really well, is decently priced, safe and clean. Great place for kids or adult kids. The machines are all kept in tip top condition and theres an incredible range from when pinball was first invented, all the way through to the current machines. Highly recommended.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$21–30
Hours of fun! Love pinball and the dedication of the people who keep this going. First time here on 4/15/23. Love the wide range of machines from many different decades.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20
Astoundingly wonderful pinball museum an official non-profit even!. Nearly all games were all working very well, which seemed like a miracle because you could freely play all but the most ancient ones pre-1950s. There were some very weird machines that I had never heard of but that were very fun. It was a wonderful place to learn about the art, play, and science of pinball and it had a very nice impact on my family besides just being fun! I'd recommend that everyone start with a few early games then move up slowly to the newest games so you can appreciate the history. I'd also recommend that newcomers pick one game to play for a significant amount of time, just to get the feel for what it is like to get to advanced non-random-feeling play. This was perfect for my entire family, from 10 years old on up! The write-ups on each machine were clear and appreciated. The staff were enthusiastic and very friendly. I will definitely be back when we are nearby!
I really hate trashing this place. It is amazing they have such a great collection of machines from different eras that are all mostly operational. For the price, spending just a couple hours here provides incredible value. That said, with the exception of a couple of their newer Stern machines, none of them plays very well. Perhaps it's unrealistic to expect 30+ year-old machines to play like they did when they were new, but some of the issues seem easily correctable. It had been a few years since my previous visit and will likely be a while before I visit again, for the reason states above. Again, great to see these machines again, just wish they played better.
