This iconic seafood restaurant in San Diego has been delighting diners for decades with its consistently delicious dishes and captivating sunset views. The delectable seafood offerings are a testament to their commitment to quality, making it a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts. The charming ambiance and breathtaking sunset backdrop create a memorable dining experience that keeps patrons coming back time and again. Service and people are always friendly there.
Very lovely patio, with view and fine dining in beautiful Del Mar. Mussels are our favorite in here, well done! The salmon, tuna was also very delicious. I think for a fine dining place chairs were cheap and there was no appropriate shades for a very sunny afternoon . We paid a very good price for 2 dinners and appetizers and wine however I was shocked to see they charged $2 for 2 tiny small slice of ordinary bread we asked extra for mussels’ delicious sauce. For such an expensive dinner they should not make penny counting, this seemed very odd compared to some other high end places we visit regularly in Del Mar and La Jolla.
We originally were sat inside even though I requested a table outside in our reservation. I looked around outside and it was very busy but I could see one table available. I went to the hostess and asked politely to be moved outside and that we would happily wait if need be. They checked on a couple things and accommodated us right away. The atmosphere was much better outside. The view and weather were perfect, especially since we were postioned right behind some acrylic glass to block the wind. My partner and I shared the Hamachi crudo and crab cakes as appetizers and then the branzino and mashed potatoes as our entree. Our appetizers were better than the entree. Everything tasted good, however, it was all a little boring. I could be biased after working in fine dining for years, including fine dining seafood in Santa Monica. We ordered the bon bon, and the mocha semifredo for dessert. The semifredo was delicious and I understand why there's so many pictures and reviews about it. Finally, our server was far from attentive. We were constantly trying to order more food and drinks. He didn't check on us enough or even pass by for us to grab him and ask. One of the items we did order he forgot and tried blaming the kitchen. It's obvious to a former server you forgot - just own up to it and apologize and get it comped off the bill upon fixing your mistake. I mean, it was an order of $3 bread for crying out loud. Unfortunately, we never got his name because he never introduced himself. Overall, I'm rating this place higher due to how polite the hostess and manager was at the beginning. I was bummed by the execution of dishes but I could tell everything was fresh and of good quality. I'm not sure I would return if I was back in town but if I did I may stick to appetizers and raw bar selections. And I would definitely get the semifredo again.
Absolutely wonderful restaurant in all areas: Staff, Service, and Cuisine. Bonus points for an exceptional ocean view. One of the managers Joe was specifically very helpful during our late lunch. We enjoyed so many menu items during our visit. Ambiance was relaxed but still upscale. Restaurant has easy access to a parking garage and is located on the main street through Del Mar so it’s easy to get to. Lovely place and we will definitely be back.
Really recommend Cioppino. The sea food tastes very fresh. Fried calamari is also good too. But Futtuccine Pasta tastes weird for me. Overall, the food here is still worth the price.Food: 4/5
The Cioppino was very flavorful and pairing it with some bread to soak up the juices hit the spot. There is a very nice view of the coast, but it can get a little warm in the Sun so bring shades, unless you plan on dining as the sunsets. Not overcrowded and prices are expected of a restaurant in the area. During happy hour one could sit at the bar to take advantage of paying less. Parking: There is a paid parking garage onsite but plenty of street parking if you're willing to walk.
Food was good, but a little pricey for the serving size. It looks like this place is popular with the locals.Food: 4/5
Excellent seafood, served in a nice setting. The prices are commensurate with the location downtown Del Mar and the freshness. The choices of the fresh fish were quite wide and the preparations were well done as well. We got four different dishes in our group and they were all very good. The main complaint was a slight under seasoning. All the sauces that accompanied the dishes were also good, but some more of each would have been good. Photos below of the Macadamia crusted Mahi mahi, Seared Ahi Tuna, and the Sea Bass. Not shown is the Salmon, which is another of their signature dishes. May 2023 update: Went there for lunch & it continues to impress. The menu seems updated, with more emphasis on healthier options. The portions were very generous.
Great drinks, hilarious and fun bartenders. Espresso Martini's are tasty here!Service: 5/5
Love their Salmon, one of the best but it's really the Atmosphere you are paying for which is amazing.Food: 5/5
