Pak-A-Sak is an employee owned, family friendly company operating 34 stores in Indiana and Ohio. We also have 13 Subway franchises and one Taco Bell.
Pak-A-Sak is the retail division of Jay Petroleum, Inc., a company founded in 1959 by James Peterson. As Jim’s small business began to grow, it became apparent to him that there were many opportunities to diversify beyond distributing fuels to farms and small gas stations. As a result, he began to acquire retail service stations which he then leased to dealers to operate. Some of these locations would later become the early sites of Pak-A-Sak’s beginnings.
Pak-A-Sak began in 1980 with the acquisition of three locally owned mom & pop grocery gas stations. However, the business quickly grew to fifteen locations by the early 1990’s. Although those early stores were nothing like the glamorous food and fuel centers of today, the name and image of Pak-A-Sak quickly became synonymous with fast, friendly, 24 hour shopping.
The mid 90’s brought on the emergence of a new growth category; branded fast foods. Pak-A-Sak became one of the first Midwestern chains to enter this new arena by purchasing a Subway franchise in 1993. By the end of that same year, the company had also secured a partnership with Taco Bell. Currently Pak-A-Sak operates 13 Subways, 1 Taco Bell, and 3 Noble Romans Pizza Express operations.
In 2008, Jim Peterson sold his company back to his employees through the establishment of an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). This enables eligible employees to participate in beneficial ownership of the company through a qualified retirement plan.
Today our 400 plus employee owners serve thousands of people throughout communities in east central Indiana and west central Ohio. Whether those customers are filling their cars with our quality gasoline, filling their cups with our fresh brewed coffee, our filling themselves with our delicious sandwiches and snacks, they’re experiencing the difference between a convenience store…and a whole lot more!

Pak-A-Sak offers a wide variety of grocery, dairy, snacks, candy, and beverages. We also feature fresh brewed coffee, bakery products, fountain drinks, and deli sandwiches. Some locations may also offer Subway sandwiches.
