Description

It is 1974 when Juan Francisco “Pancho” Ochoa begins his journey into the restaurant business. It initiates a wonderful family tradition, with the UNIQUE TASTE of great Mexican food.

On January 6th, 1975 Pancho creates “El Pollo Loco” concept in his small hometown of Guasave, located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico.

In 1980, this concept becomes the first Mexican restaurant chain to go go across the border, opening its first store in Los Angeles, California on Alvarado Ave. and 6th St.

Pancho’s passion continues in 1986, when he creates a new and innovating concept in Mexican food. On July 1st, 1987 he opens the first “Taco Palenque” with a distinctive quality, UNIQUE TASTE and good service that quickly developed and gained a good reputation throughout South Texas.

On July 31st, 2005 Pancho and his son Charles, with the support of their family, open Palenque Grill in Laredo, Texas. The Ochoa family introduce Flerida Ochoa’s (Pancho’s wife) family recipes, creating a menu with excellent dishes of Mexican culinary traditions.

On behalf of the Ochoa family, we thank you for visiting our small piece of Mexico. We are delighted to be able to serve you now in Laredo, McAllen and San Antonio, Texas.

We ordered shredded chicken with mole, tacos Matamoros and ribs. The mole was good but I wish it had more shredded chicken. The tacos Matamoros were also good but I like the ones from taco Palenque better. Their tortilla is better and bigger. Lastly, the ribs were great and had double meat.
Excellent authentic Mexican fare. Loved the Parilla de Prima for two. Enough for 2 hungry dimers or 3 light eaters. Also loved their cevice - it was excellent. Friendly and attentive service. Would definitely go back to sample their other offerings.
The whole experience here was great, are server was very kind & attentive,he had had a wish to provide good service. The Mar y Tierra Prime Steak was delicious, everything was cooked perfectly, the steak was juicy, the guacamole flavorful, the Laredo shrimp was very delicious basically everything. The charro beans and rice were both okay, I was more impressed by their refried beans and chips and their tasty Salsas. The Pasta Cuchi Cuchi was delicious, the sauce was very flavorful. I would definitely recommend the Prime steak but I will try the Fajitas de Res in the near future as I feel that cut of meat will be more delicious.
I’ve had an outstanding experience at the San Antonio location but this one needs a lot of work. The location is great and not so great. It’s located at the newest part of the mall which could be very accessible but also always hard to find parking spaces. The service was alright. The restaurant needs a lot of improvements, for the location and prices they should get those torn chairs fixed. They’re ugly and uncomfortable. The food. I ordered the enchiladas with mole enmoladas they were good. The mole had great taste, the chicken pieces were a little too chunky I had to use a knife every time because the fork didn’t even cut through them. The arroz wasn’t good to be honest and both frijoles were pretty good. They had a different taste, not sure why. The chips were crunchy and salty, just perfect. It’s way too pricey for what it is. Three enmoladas and a soda for $20? It came with beans, rice and chips. No pues wow. If they work on sides, serving portions and furniture the prices would sort of balance. At this time, it is not worth the price.
My friend and I visited the Palenque Grill on two occasions. It is located at La Plaza Mall on South 10th Street. I was left by the visits with mixed feelings about this place. Our first visit was great but our second visit seemed like a rip-off. The first visit we ordered the Parrillada for two $47 dollars, chicken and Fajitas, well served, plenty of food, photo of menu the service was great, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere. The second visit I had to change tables because the banket seating was torn and sagging, I actually sank in as I sat down. For such a nice place they should really take the time for repairs. This visit we ordered the Prime Parrillada for a whopping $58 dollars for two, it's supposed to be a Prime steak of Rib Eye, I've had better and more tender steak it is served with bacon wrapped shrimp. The Rib Eye was cut in 5 small pieces, I got two thin, wide strips of steak and two shrimp and a Pablano Chile filled with refried beans. If you look at the photo it almost looks like a meal for one person. For being just shy of 60 dollars they definitely could have served a thicker cut of steak. I was a Chef of a Steak House and I know an 8.oz cut pre-cooked, smaller once cooked when I see one. We ordered it medium and it was served well. Once I mentioned the size of the steak to our server we never saw him again. In fact another server took our dessert order and ended up bringing our check to us. I really have mixed feelings about this review, and I know about going to the web site which gets no response to voice my opinion. Do I recommend this place, yes but beware!!
Hmm average + Good burger, not the best but overall good + good beer Budweiser is not a beer but a juice for Europeans ... Comparable for classical beer in EU - service average, "our" waiter was rather not interested in us.
We had such an excellent dinner experience we returned the next evening. For starters, the chips, salsa, and bean dip was excellent. The original margaritas were a good deal at $7.50, with a classic tart/lime taste. The cheese quesadillas and chicken enchiladas had an appealing flavor. The tres leches cake for dessert was exceptional. To add to that, our server - Art - did an outstanding job of explaining the menu and taking care of our needs in a very professional manner.
Last night we celebrated my friend’s birthday in Palenque at the Plaza Mall. She got the idea from my celebration in August. We just looooooooved the service last night! Our waiter, Ramiro was assigned to our table. He did an excellent job! He went above and beyond! Thank you Ramiro for the great service you gave us! The mariachi was excellent too!! The food was warm and delicious!
The food was great especially the fajitas . The rice could use some work , but the street corn and quesadillas were amazing ! The service is spectacular!
