History
Palm Acres Farm, Inc. (PAF) is a family owned business that has been operating in Sacramento County since 1948. PAF started as a chicken ranch, in largely rural Fair Oaks, to provide eggs for the fast-growing post WWII economy by I. Homer Smith. The eggs that were produced went to a co-op in Rio Linda, who then marketed the eggs.
In 1953, I. Homer Smith had a serious heart attack. Mr. Smith’s son, Gerald C. Smith, quit his job at McClellan AFB to work with his father. Soon after his arrival, Gerald C. Smith began to market eggs to the local stores and restaurants in the Sacramento area. As the area’s population grew, it became impossible to continue as a chicken ranch in now residential Fair Oaks. The chicken ranch gave way to a wholesale egg dealer that is still in operation today.
In 1989, PAF was turned over to Gerald C. Smith’s son Gerry Smith, who continues to run the business. The egg business has changed a lot since those first years as a small chicken ranch in Fair Oaks. Eggs are sold in more forms than ever before. PAF offers for sale fresh shell eggs, frozen eggs, hard boiled peeled eggs, liquid whole eggs, and egg whites.
Currently, PAF serves produce houses and food producers all over Northern California, now as Palm Acres Farm, Inc. In addition to our private customers, we have years of experience with the correctional and probation facilities of Sacramento County and Placer County.
PAF is a local, family run company that focuses on quality products at a fair price—with exceptional service.
