Serving families with deaf or hard of hearing students in all of Ohio.
If you are a parent of a student with any type of hearing loss, who is focusing on Special Education and facing a newly identified issue (transitions, questions, loneliness, challenges, frustrations, etc), the Parent Mentor can be a resource to you and connect you to other resources that will help you to confidently engage the issues and push the process well. A Parent Mentor is a parent of a child with an IEP themselves and so can be a valuable short term dialogue partner as well.
As the IEP is the cornerstone of Special Education, a lot of Parent Mentor time is spent preparing parents for IEP meetings and helping with preparation and follow up "homework" along the way.
The Parent Mentor is not a lawyer and does not represent the parent. The Parent Mentor is not a part of the IEP Team. The Parent Mentor will function best as an "adrenaline shot" into a parent's confidence in their child's learning, a parent's clarity in the educational plan as outlined in the IEP, and a parent's communication channels with their school IEP team.
