PARK BASEBALL
“The Park Way”
Every successful program has things about it that make it unique. In the Park Baseball program, we have several details about our program that set it apart from everybody else. We call this simply, “The Park Way”. It is much more than rules that we follow. It is a lifestyle that we choose to live because it is our choice to be a part of the baseball program. It defines the way we practice, the way we conduct ourselves, and the way the program polices itself. The characteristics are listed below.
· Young players coming into the program will be cared for and mentored by the older veteran players and coaching staff. Young players will also be expected to know their role in the program as they are adjusting to change.
· Young players will earn playing time and respect, regardless of the hype placed on them coming from “select” baseball programs or little league programs.
· Veteran players will not hesitate to speak up when a young player or a veteran player is getting to big of an ego. It is OK to tell a teammate – “This is ‘The Park’, we do not do that here.” Older players will be the example of our “culture” for future players to follow.
· The program and the TEAM come first – individuality is not important when it comes to the overall well-being of the PROGRAM.
· When you arrive at Kingwood Park as a baseball player – you have to start over. The terminology is new, the drills are new, and your teammates and coaches are new. The coaching staff and your teammates do not care what your little league or your “select” league stats were and neither should you.
· Respect at “The Park” is earned through work ethic, results, and by staying humble.
· Players that fail to adhere to the “Park Way” are subject to removal from the program. Players are expected to be advocates of our program. They are not to question decisions of the coaching staff in a public setting, to the media, or at home. These conversations, should they occur, should be kept private with the coaching staff and will be dealt with internally.
