The mission of Park Place Music Academy is to boost local music learning activity by offering inspiring professional private music lessons for moderate pricing to create access for more students.
Park Place Music Academy was founded in 2007 by Elisa Maattanen-Boynton, a Finnish violin and strings teacher, M.M. who immigrated to the U.S.A. through marriage after graduating from the Sibelius Academy and Helsinki University. She landed first to Palo Alto, Silicon Valley in California and had there private violin studio and taught violin and music history at Gorin School of Music. After moving to Portland area in Oregon, she added Suzuki method to her teaching arsenal through teacher training at Marylhurst University Music department and after that was asked to start teaching at the Marylhurst University Suzuki Violin department. She has served also at Lewis & Clark music department as adjunct violin instructor. She founded and established the strings program at Alliance Charter Academy in Oregon City. She has played at Stanford Symphony Orchestra and Stanford Chamber Orchestra, Marylhurst Symphony Orchestra and is currently actively playing 1st violin at Willamette Falls Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Maattanen-Boynton finds great joy teaching individual strings students and finding their own best potential by setting goals together with them. Students are encouraged to play chamber music in ensembles and to take part in twice a month group classes for added fun and practice motivation. Park Place students can take part once a year in Suzuki Violin/Viola/Cello Play-in at PSU, Lincoln Hall, organized by Oregon Symphony.
