PSCG is a place where adults and children alike can meet neighbors, beautify their neighborhood, and learn about the importance of growing produce locally.
The Park Street Community Garden began taking shape in 2009, when community members sought to create a space for Butte residents to grow healthy and organic food for themselves. Today, each plot is planted, maintained, and harvested by a local individual or family.
It all began with a design plan and proposal to garner City support. What followed were many meetings, work parties, fundraisers, and a very healthy dose of stick-to-itiveness.
This past summer, garden organizers completed baseline construction, which included landscaping and leveling the site; building the raised beds, compost bins, and front/back fences; installing an irrigation system; delivering compost, soil, a tool shed, and granite benches; and covering the walkways with sawdust to reduce weeds. We began accepting members in 2011 and the 2012 season saw full membership, with all 21 of our plots being used. We are now ready to shift our focus toward education, and are currently applying for grants to fund a long-term education program.
