If you’re considering applying for Parkland Community College’s theatre program, consider otherwise. Although the department has a wonderful acting instructor, the department’s director is a narcissistic, self-indulgent bully who makes the classroom environment unwelcoming and stressful. I have seen this department director take his stress out on students both neurotypical and non-neurotypical in harmful ways, and he has made even the most dedicated, hard-working individuals cry. Again, if you’re thinking about going to Parkland College and care about your mental health, please do not apply as a theatre major. Of course, I encourage you to apply for ANY other major at Parkland College and still audition for theater roles. Or you can volunteer on any show without having to worry about the egotistical maniac constantly hanging over your head. However, I feel it's necessary to give a word of warning to any theatre-minded students considering an education at this institution.
Been here several times and the most recent time for their production of Sweeney Todd. Great show, great cast, wonderful theater.
I went to opening night of the play "Memphis". It was awesome. The cast was great.
There are 2 stages here, a black box for smaller shows audience on 3 sides and a full stage with only the one wall to break these were great facilities and I had a pretty good time watching a show in each. The play i saw in the larger theatre was better probably because it was fiddler but overall the both plays I've seen at Parkland displayed a good range of emotional expression and were satisfying viewing experiences
Attended a concert of the Chamber Singers and Wind Ensemble. The choir was remarkably good, and I will try to attend their concerts whenever I can. On the other hand, I had never been to Parkland College before, and I had a hard time finding the right building,as there was no particular main door, and once inside, I had to wander around before I found the concert hall.
I basically live here, everyone is fun and easy going. The miner just got some revamps finished. Black box is black and performances are good. 10/10 would recommend
I've loved every performance I've seen here!
Parkland puts on several plays and musicals each year, and tickets are very reasonably priced. In addition, the fine arts department puts on a number of free concerts as well. Every seat has a clear view of the stage.
We went to see "She Kills Monsters" and it was amazing. I completely forgot that I was watching actors and was wrapped up in the story!
I will watch every performance!
