Parkside Chapel has been “Dedicated to Service” since its inception in 1997 by J.L. Marcum, David Anderson, various community leaders and business partners, to better serve the people of Hereford, Deaf Smith County, and the surrounding areas. In 2011 the existing Directors sold their interest and stock in Parkside Chapel Funeral Home to Charles M. “Mike” Roberts. Mike has been a licensed funeral director/embalmer since 1976. He started in the industry in his hometown of Friona, Texas where he went all through school, graduating Friona High School in May of 1972. He attended Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, graduating in August of 1974. He returned to Friona, and worked for Parsons-Ellis Funeral Home serving his apprenticeship, and becoming licensed in 1976. Eager to gain further experience, Mike left Friona in 1977 to work for a number of Funeral Homes throughout Texas including towns such as Childress, Pampa, Lubbock, and even Abilene to name a few. While in Abilene he was the manager of York Southwest Casket Company for 10 years. He then transferred to Houston, Texas with the same company to spear-head the beginning of an order center for York. In 2001 The York Group was bought out by Matthews International, moving their headquarters to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After being given a job opportunity, Mike departed from Matthews and accepted employment as a funeral supplies sales representative for The Dodge Company, allowing him to travel all of Oklahoma, Western Kansas, and the Panhandle of Texas. After a solid 5 years with Dodge, Mike felt it necessary to relocate back to his roots to be in closer proximity with his mother who turned 90 years old in 2016. Mike relishes in the way he has been accepted and received by the community of Hereford and the surrounding areas, making friendships and acquaintances that will he will value for a lifetime, and wishes to continue his calling and vocation for many more years to come!
