Parkside Grille

We were anticipating a nice evening and a great dinner. We arrived at around 7:10 PM. We were seated at the bar. Ten minutes later we hailed someone and asked for wine glasses. We waited another ten minutes and a server arrived. She was very friendly and said she'd be right back. We asked if we could have menus. She smiled and handed us one and left. We saw her distributing and collecting checks and talking with other servers. This wasn’t going well. We asked the owner, who happened to be behind the bar for some rolls or bread. She said, “Your server will bring it.” Our patience was waning; however; we waited another five minutes or so and still no service. Nice way to run a business. We left and went to the East End Ale House.

I have been here about 4-5 times. We typically go on a quiet weeknight, and although there is only 1 server, she was experienced, helpful and prompt. The food is delicious. Recently, we made reservations for Father's Day brunch and were utterly DISAPPOINTED. On a busy weekend especially a holiday, a restaurant should have a hostess, plenty of kitchen and wait staff, and a manager who is taking care of any issues. Absolutely none of these things were the case. We had a reservation and waiting 15-20 minutes just to be seated. Then our food took an HOUR to arrive, the kitchen was out of several items on the menu, I asked the waitress/downstairs "helper" for bread for my toddler, and was told it would be sent up never happened. To top it all off, I brought my frustrations nicely as feedback to the server and the person who appeared to be in charge and never once did I get an APOLOGY. At least I would have said, okay they're having an off day, if offered an apology and explanation, but without either of these things and based on others reviews, I'd say I won't be returning.

We have given this place so many chances...the last one was yesterday for Mother's Day. The decor and setting are perfect...the chefs are inspired. However, the service ruins it all. It is difficult to relax and enjoy when you are constantly trying to get the attention of the server...the menu had items they were out of, and the items we ordered did not arrive as described; the chicken wrap was missing the mixed greens. We ordered a salad last time we were there that was missing the best part: the pecans. The server said they were out of them, which wasn't mentioned when we ordered, and I had to remind them there is a grocery store 5 minutes away. It's a BYOB but the server seemed to find it a challenge to bring glasses the ones he did bring contained a broken glass and once he did bring something, he failed to check back. Honestly, he seemed like a nice person but he just doesn't have the training he should have had before waiting on people who are going to spend $100 on a meal. We asked the servers how old they were one was 17 and had they ever had server jobs before...the answer was no. Professional, experienced servers could really turn this place around but the owner seems to hire high school kids instead. It's a shame. We are disappointed and will not return.

Went for Valentine's day. Excellent food and service. Wonderful atmosphere.
