We went to the Parkville Nature Sanctuary for the first time this last weekend. We went around 9:00am, with three adults, and two kiddos. This is a wonderful place to visit and a fabulous way to involve kiddos with nature. There are clearly marked trails, ample benches scattered throughout the trail for sitting/resting, amazing informational boards are also present to explain the animals and their habitats and trash cans are strategically placed along the route as well. Truly a beautiful place to visit and a wonderful experience for the whole crew. Restrooms: They have accessible restrooms at the entrance/parking lot. Dog-friendliness: No Dogs allowed signs are posted. Picnic area: There is a picnic area, but it is not all level or covered.
The Parkville Nature Sanctuary, located near Park University in downtown Parkville, is a truly picturesque gem. Taking a walk through this sanctuary is a lovely and calming experience, surrounded by the beauty of nature. The sanctuary offers a variety of path options, including a more demanding 2-mile trek for those seeking a bit of a challenge. Regardless of the path chosen, visitors are treated to breathtaking views and a peaceful ambiance. The sanctuary provides a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, allowing you to reconnect with nature and enjoy some quiet solitude. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply looking for a serene retreat, the Parkville Nature Sanctuary is a must-visit destination.
Beautiful, well managed park. Informative plaques detail local birds, flora, critters and areas of interest. Great for a morning run or dog walk. It is a nature sanctuary so you can expect more forest than trail. Bring some Off. I kept one star back only because it should be bigger!
Nice little Nature Sanctuary to get out and Enjoy the outdoors. Has multiple trail options but all were fairly easy and saw families on all trails while here. Will be back to see if I can see more wildlife activity when in the area as I came in the middle of the day. Not Dog or Pet friendly. They make that very clear at all entry points of the Sanctuary. Has restrooms but they were locked when I was here. Multiple picnic areas at the front and middle of the area.
The sanctuary trails are beautiful, but am knocking a star as the only animals seen were squirrels. There aren't always maps available, so be sure and take a picture of the trail maps posted by the entrance. We got a bit lost, but if you follow a trail you'll find yourself back at the end in no time. Recommend bug spray!! We left with 3 ticks on us by the time we left. Dog-friendliness: No dogs allowed on the trails Picnic area: By the entrance there are tables set up where you could have a picnic
Really enjoyed this park and trails. Did the Whitetail and Old Kate trails. Just the right length at about 2.5 miles. Paths are well maintained and marked. Good elevation changes. The waterfall must really be nice when the water is flowing. Restrooms: Available at the ballfield.
I saw a review of somebody wanting to see more wildlife, unfortunately so many things will prevent that. Runners because that alerts wildlife to hide or run away and lots of children who play , scream and run. It’s still a delight and the birds are high in the trees singing joyfully. Today there were lots of children enjoying the sanctuary, I’m positive no one saw deer, wild turkey, box turtles .
Beautiful. Quiet, clean, great scenery. Good walk. Only did the 'Old Kate" trail, it's about 1.6 miles. Saw a turkey and its baby, lots of squirrels and birds. No dogs allowed
Had a great time here. Beautiful pathways! The natural waterway was very peaceful. The information signs were great. I would recommend the earlier the better, later in the day it did get busy. I dod see there was numerous signs saying to please NOT to bring pets.
I love these trails. They are tucked away when you can't hear traffic, so it feels like you and nature are alone together. The trails are well established and seem well maintained. I highly recommend for anyone wanting a beautiful hike!
