I Honestly love this school . The performing arts department is amazing ... along with stem and city ! Nothing is wrong with the school ... its just some people inside it. Beside that, the programs are completely amazing ! They all have achieved incredible things, for example: awards! The teachers are very nice!
Our 3rd grader started the CITY program at Parkway Middle this year, and we are beyond happy. More importantly she loves the school, her teachers, and her classmates. The program is challenging in just the right balance w/o an overload of busy work. We have quickly formed a bond with the other attendees, and truly feel like we have found our 'educational home!'
To be honest, if you do love the arts you should go, the earlier reviews should be different from the ones last year. I say this because we have new administration that are different from last year. So it is way more strict and I have not seen one fight since the beginning of this year compared to last year. There are still many opportunities for students, and kids are more respectful now and if not so they will be written up. For the athletic department, they added more sports, such as cross country and golf, and also added the step team which I am currently trying out for. There are many things to do, and not all parents will like all the teachers as usual. You must have a high tolerance, and not be a procrastinator, or else you will be on probation or kicked out of high academic programs. I say this because I'm in 3 highschool courses and all my classes are advanced including art. So I recommend that you always stay on tasks and get out of trouble because the administration is tough. But the guidance counselor isn't the best towards parents and helping children. Thank you for reading. *Btw world drumming is AWESOME *
I definitely would not recommend this school!! Their staff is completely unprofessional. The teachers at the CITY program push and scream at the children with no consequences. They deny and lie about any wrong doings even when several students witness bad behaviour from their teachers. It's horrible!! They would rather call these children liars than to take accountability for their actions. They don't care about the students.
Dont send your kids to this school. The performing arts program is amazing as well as CITY but no matter what program you're in the students that go there will ruin your kid. They will bully your child and make them feel awful about themselves. This school will make your kid fear getting beat up by older students who like to jump the 6th grade students. The kids start food fights and disrespect teachers. The teachers and administration will belittle your child and make them feel less-than. Dont send your child here unless you want them to graduate as a beaten-down and broken version of your kid.
2015 As a former student, I can tell you that Parkway has come up quite a bit as far as the programs it offers. The website doesn't do it justice. Both my children attended this school. I do, however, think there could be better overall communication, and better administrative set up and organization. It was very organized when I attended. More STRUCTURE is needed. It seems as though they are competing for quantity and not focusing on the QUALITY of the programs and clubs they offer. A woman's touch in admin set up is missing. I will say that there is a strong networking and opportunity for your child if they are in the Magnet programs. And they have some very nice educational field trips for students. My 4th grade daughter went to Key Largo at national reserve last year. There City Kids program is better than any other gifted program in Broward County. Again, some structure is needed, but they allow children to move forward according to ability and not age. My daughter is in 4th grade but goes to the 6th grade reading class. They can advance to many academic levels throughout the year. They learn Chinese, computer programing, have Imacs classes, robotics, learn gardening, and participate in the ARTS. These children receive scholarships for college and/or private high schools. People have concerns about the school being ghetto, but the majority of magnet schools will be because that was the intent of making these school magnet in the first place. But if you are an involved parent, you should have no worries. The children in the magnet programs have a different mindset than those who are not, and they have plenty of programs to keep the children busy and out of trouble. There are a few famous or well known people that have graduated from this school. When I attended, they allowed famous musicians to come perform for the music program. * * * * ** * *UPDATE * * * * ***** I had to switch my child from this school the last quarter of 6th grade 2016/2017 because the Math teacher for the City Kids in 6th grade was not teaching nor preparing the students for state requirements. She pilled enormous amounts of homework on them because during the day she put the kids on a Computer supplement instead of actually teaching so she could perform the duties on her other job over the phine during class time. I complained several times, and no one looked into it. The PTA is a cluster of entitled parents whose children receive favortism. At the elementry level there was a teacher who was known for calling the students idiots and other names. They depend heavily on computers and don't encourge the students to use their natural abilities for projects. 1 students who was known for cheating off other students and for her mom doing her projects didn't get discharge from the CITY PROGRAM. The kids are overpressured to be perfect in the CITY program and over stressed with the unorganized homework structure. The City program helps bring in the money. On paper, the program is impressive. But the quality of education and teachers are not. There was only 1 teacher who actually cared if her students learned. The others were miserable with the I'm just here for a paycheck attitude. The blame students first before looking into the quality of their teachers and holding them accountable. They don't want to have award ceremonies and the teachers have no enthusiasm whatsover. I used my own money to throw the end of the year elementry 5th grade party because the teachers said they didn't want to. They were just gonna allow the kids to miss their mildstone because they elementry level and the teachers didn't care. That's the disadvantge of having the elementry gifted on campus there. There teachers were trained for middle school only. and that really sucks.
It honestly is a awesome school. Its just in a ghetto hood and thats why there are quite a number of hoodlums that attend the school. The Performing Arts program is actually pretty good Band, Drama, Art, Vocals. I like to visit some of my favorite teachers Mr. Holloway, Ms. A Brown, Mr. Clark, Ms. Vincent, Mr. Sealy, Mr. Dimbin, Ms Lucho and I also get hours from helping out the teachers, tutoring kids and cleaning what ever they need me to clean. Bullying wasn't really a problem when I went there but the kids that attend now are way to immature so they'll do and say the most stupidest things. Lucky for me i have a reputation there so when I show up the students KNOW not to do anythingWhen they saw by muscular arms because they knew that if did they might get a little hurt if you know what I mean. Shout out to Parkway class of 2016, The Jazz band got straight superiors, concert band got straight superiors, and i'm pretty sure Vocals did too. We are a LEGACY. Graduating class 2020!!! I would also like to give a shout out to my homeboys Inady, DeAndre aka Dre, Antonio aka Tonio, Jarvis, And Brandon aka Bran Bran or Brandi. WE WERE LIT. The most unprofessional and rude staff ive ever metI hated this school. Teachers push you and they don't follow any kind of rules. Security guards stand and watch fights and office staff talk about fights on the intercom. And office staff like the assistant principal have favorite students who didn't get in trouble for anything.
Horrible. That school is just plain foolish. No one takes problems seriously. My sister was being bullied and told the principle, who did nothing. Teachers are rude and bullies her also. I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND UR CHILD THERE! If you do then get ready for trouble at parkway middle school.
Today was my last day at Parkway Middle School and I was kinda sad to leave. Majority of the teachers are great and actually care for their students ... even if they show it in a rude , upsetting way. I was in the dance program for 3 years. Having Ms.Nussbaum for 6th and 7th grade and advancing on to Ms.Murguia for 8th. Preforming Arts is really enjoyable if you're in the elective that you like. The dance teachers do their best to make sure you understand and the execute the moves correctly. Overall I enjoyed Parkway and just wanted to share.
