We had a good experience with Gateway for Paws. Lisa was very honest and caring about little Faith's needs. We now have a sweet cavalier that makes us chuckle every day ! We are glad they are careful with their placement and felt the price very reasonable for our new family member. Thank you again Gateway 4 Paws!
RIDICULOUS FEES!!!! I have inquired about two different dogs and they wanted $575.00. I wrote them and told them that I am retired so I have the time and love for a dog. Plus I have a fenced yard but not that kind of money. And asked if they would accept a lower adoption fee. They didn't even respond!!! If they really were concerned about finding a good home for these dogs they would lower their fees.
I questioned the $525.00 adoption fee in an email. I got a nasty response back and asked if I wanted to move forward with the adoption. I stated yes, I was able to afford the fee , I just wanted to understand why her particular application fee was that high. The rescue refused to go further without doing any follow up on me or my references . They decided I do not make enough money to care for JoY. I have worked in rescue for 17 years and have never treated a potential adopter this poorly. This organization needs to fold and loose their tax I’d number. Very poorly run and rude.
Agree with all of the others complaining about unprofessional. We live in the country on 5 acres, so no physical fence. When I said I will either walk the dogs or play outside with the dogs, they basically called me a liar. When I said we have an electronic containment system that we keep on the lightest sock feels like a weak 9v to the tongue or beep only and explained we only got that because we had rescued a small dog chiuaweiner and he dug under the fence multiple times when we lived in South Carolina and ran away, so decided we needed a second line fence to keep it from happening to our other dogs, she said I never mentioned a dog that ran away and again called me a liar. I had that dog less than 6 months and it was over 15 years ago. Forgive me that I forgot that one as I listed previous pets. She said she would flag my name and never approve me or anyone near me to adopt. Wow!
Prospective pets owners should be aware of this “non-profit”. What they are asking for a “donation” they could be working with/for breeders and or puppy mills. Very rude responses on email and don’t explain why the cost is so high.
Don’t waste your time on them. They have nothing to do but being noisy. Unprofessional, jobless, manipulative, argumentative, dishonest people work in there. They will try everything not to give the dog to you. Got an encouragement to buy a dog, not to adopt from shelter like them. The woman/man who is volunteer still keeps HARASSING me with the emails AFTER rejecting me. Says he/ she is volunteer but all job is HARASSING people. Like you see in other reviews, stop giving your valuable time whom don’t deserve it like this shelter
This place seems very fraudulent in my opinion. They have themselves listed ad a non-profit yet they require significant payments for dogs. Those very high payments are then considered a "donation." I bet the IRS would be elated to hear of this. These people are highly unprofessional and seemed very discriminatory in their communication and lack thereof. They were extremely sloppy in their messaging and argumentative when you ask a single question to get better clarity. It's very clear not a single "volunteer" here has a shred of conflict resolution in them and their main goal is to belittle the entire STL area of pet lovers. READ THEIR OTHER REVIEWS! THEY ARE BAD!
This organization has a very poor procedure in their practices. Their number one issue is communication. They fail to communicate when they will actually be on your property or driving/walking by. In doing so, they miss an opportunity to help families who want to help and better serve animals. They fail to communicate who is communicating with you as their emails and contacts are all anonymous. They fail to handle conflicts professionally and respectfully. And when they are called out for shady practices, they become more unprofessional. They fail to actually make relationships with people who want to help. And unfortunately, no one wins.
