Pastor Baron D. Young

The Reverend Doctor Baron Dewitt Young was born and raised in Washington, D.C.; educated in the Public Schools of the District of Columbia. He continued his education receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of the District of Columbia in 1978. In addition, he received a Masters of Divinity degree from Howard University, School of Divinity, in 1989.

He later completed advanced studies in Christian spirituality/Christian formation and received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Wesley Theological Seminary, Wash., D.C. in 2005.

Rev. Dr. Young worked for twenty-three years with the Federal Government, where he closed out his career as a Personnel Management Specialist and EEO Staff Officer at the Agricultural Marketing Service, of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in 1994.

Rev. Dr. Young began his Christian ministry, in 1984, as a member and later a steward and Sunday school teacher at Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church, in Ft. Washington, Maryland. After being licensed to preach, he served on the ministerial staff.

Upon being ordained an Itinerant Deacon in 1987, Rev. Dr. Young was assigned as an interim pastor at First A.M.E. Church in Alexandria, Virginia. He was ordained an Itinerant Elder in 1989 and continued serving as pastor of the First A.M.E. Church in Alexandria, Virginia. In 1991, Rev. Dr. Young was appointed to the pastoral charge of St. Luke A.M.E. Church, Ellicott City, Maryland. Then on January 1993, he was appointed to the pastoral charge of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Wheaton, Maryland; where he and his first wife, the late Rev. Karen L. Young began a replanting and building program in 1998. This effort was completed in November 2007 three months after the death of Rev. Karen L.Young who had been fighting breast cancer for over four years.

Rev. Dr. Young in 2008 was appointed to serve the historic Bethel A.M.E. Church in Cambridge, Maryland on the Eastern Shore. While pastoring there, Rev. Dr. Young also served the community through a number of civic and local government organizations, among them, the Dorchester County Board of Education’s Minority Achievement Taskforce, the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee and the Dorchester County Board of Education, Ethics Committee, the Harriet Tubman Organization, the Salvation Army (Advisory Board), the NAACP and the Dorchester County Ministerial Association.

Rev. Dr. Young is the father of three sons (Barod, Bryson, and Edward) and grandfather of two granddaughters (Karen and Victoria). He and his 2nda sixteen year US Army veteran (Captain) who currently works at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, have made Harford County their home. Together they enjoy serving the historic St. James A.M.E. Church (Green Street, Havre de Grace, Maryland).

Rev. Dr. Young is also serving the community and County through several groups; including the Harford County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Advisory Board on Aging, the Superintendent’s Cultural Proficiency Council, the Susquehanna Ministerium, Harford County Clergy United, Faith Activated Community Empowering – Intervention Training (FACE-IT), and the Harford County Youth Commission.

These activities affords him an opportunity to share the values of Christian activism, Christian spiritual formation, and various community organizing principles that develop the social, spiritual, cultural, and political well-being of everyone and the advancement of God’s kingdom on Earth.
