Patoka Lake

Description

Patoka Lake is the second-largest reservoir in the U.S. state of Indiana (after Lake Monroe) and is spread across Dubois, Crawford, and Orange counties in southern Indiana.Created as a joint effort between the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the lake is one of eight such reservoirs built in the state to provide a secure water supply and as a method of flood control. The lake covers 8,800 surface acres (36 km²) of water in the summer. The lake was created by damming the Patoka River about 118.3mi above its mouth with the Patoka Lake Dam, a 145-feet-high rockfill earthen dam. The lake is fed by several smaller tributaries including Allen Creek, Paint Creek, and Ritter Creek. After the lake was created several parks and nature preserves were established around it totaling 16920acre. The lake and dam is still managed by a cooperative management team of the Army Corps of Engineers and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.Patoka Lake is a great place for photography, as it is inhabited by migrating birds, a large variety of fish and beautiful lake shores. The lake has been heavily stocked with bass, bluegill, catfish, redear, crappie, and walleye. Once a year the Lake Association hosts GarDaze, an event bringing in avid fisherman from around the world, including fishing celebrities like Babe Winkleman and Bill Dance. Other facilities include an archery range, boat ramps, a cross-country skiing course, fishing areas (including ice fishing), a disc golf course, trails for hiking and bicycling, hunting areas, interpretive and recreational programs, star parties, picnic shelters, swimming areas, and waterskiing zones. The lake also hosts a large campground with over 500 camping sites.

We spent 3 nights in cabin 7 and had an absolutely amazing time. Our family enjoyed playing the ring game and just being outside. Our kids loved the hot tub and the playground. We loved being able to walk to Patoka Lake! The hosts were also very friendly and responsive.
Love this place. Quiet and right there in the woods - very peaceful and could enjoy nature from our patio. There are some awesome wooden sculptures all around the cabins ours had a cool bench. It's near the boat ramp with a dock that's great for fishing - you can even walk to the lake if you can carry all your gear. Just be aware that the return walk is mostly uphill. Although nothing bites there at night, that could be just not finding the right depth/bait combination. Will go back next year if they'll have me.
Our family stayed in two cabins. They were nicely furnished and very clean. We had a nice big fire pit with plenty of firewood. The owners are very friendly and quick to respond to any issue. We will stay here again.
We stayed at cabin 5 and couldn’t have been happier. It was clean and had everything we needed. The ground are well kept and it was quite a peaceful stay. We will definitely book again. Thank you Cindy for being a great host.
My family has the best time here! The cabins are cute and perfect. It is very family friendly with a playground and easy hiking! We go out on the boat a couple times a day and it is very easy as the ramp is not crowded. Staying here is a fun tradition that I hope continues for a long time :
We had a memorable stay at French Lick Cabins at Patoka Lake Village! A week filled with lots of fishing, boating, roasting hot dogs & smores, playing at the playground and visiting "Harry". The cabin was stocked with everything you need, kitchen items, towels, soaps, shampoos, garbage bags, etc. The cabin was decorated for the fall season and felt homey. We all enjoyed our stay!
Once again, we had a great time on the lake. The cabin has been "spruced up" since we were there and very much appreciated. Super cute and clean!! Grounds are always kept so nice and being able to get ice before heading to the ramp at the end of the road is super convenient. We will be back for sure!! Owners take alot of pride in their business. Thanks for a great anniversary32rd weekend!!
Our cabin was very clean and had all the needed kitchen wear to make a pleasant stay. The grounds around the cabins are very well maintained and very beautiful. If you decide to stay too you will not be disappointed.
This was a great experience for my girls basketball team. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The cabins were clean and well put together. I would recommend this to anybody looking for a vacation spot or a company retreat. Definitely going back again!
Very friendly hosts. Cabins were stocked with everything but food and drinks. Nice views and right by the lake. We stayed in cabin 3 which is pet friendly. Will be returning next vacation.
