Established in 2006, the PATRICK MIKHAIL GALLERY has emphasized a complete engagement in its artists' professional practices, and a commitment to launching new and relevant bodies of work. Through its curated program of solo and group exhibitions, special projects, curatorial and academic collaborations, off-site projects, participation in international art fairs and festivals, and through its vital relationships with museums, institutions, corporate collections, and private collectors, the gallery has promoted and nurtured the careers of a new generation of Canadian contemporary artists. Artists whose practices have investigated a full range of contemporary issues and ideas, and have incorporated painting, photography, installation, performance, sculpture, drawing, film, video, and new media.
The gallery has placed works in numerous institutional collections including those of the National Gallery of Canada, Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Foreign Affairs Canada, Canada Council Art Bank, City of Ottawa Art Collection, Ottawa Art Gallery, Nova Scotia Art Bank, and the National Portrait Gallery. Collectively, the gallery's artists have been the recipients of a wide range of prestigious awards, grants, scholarships, residencies, and public art commissions, and have included numerous winners and nominees for awards such as the Swiss Arts Awards 2012, Sobey Art Award, the BMW Contact Photo Prize, the RBC Canadian Painting Competition, the Council for the Arts in Ottawa Mid-Career Artist Award, RBC Emerging Artist Award, the bi-annual Karsh Award, Canadian Centre for Architecture Prize, Roloff Beny Prize, Mois de la Photo a Montreal Prize, Ontario Association of Art Galleries Award, Magenta Foundation Flash Forward Awards, Santa Fe Prize for Photography, and the Heinz Jordan Painting Award.
