The Paul Robeson Cultural Center (PRCC) is a Rutgers University unit that fosters positive relationships of an academic, cultural and humanitarian nature within the University and surrounding communities. The Center provides opportunities for all students to receive a culturally diverse and enriching educational experience. In the Spring of 2005, the Center was a recipient of the University's annual Human Dignity Award in recognition of its efforts to provide multicultural education to the Rutgers community.
The PRCC offers programs showcasing the contributions of African-Americans to American culture and the international community through literature, science, activism and the arts.
The Center was established in 1967 in response to the challenge of providing a supportive atmosphere to increasing numbers of African-American students entering Rutgers University. In 1972, the Center was renamed in honor of Rutgers' esteemed alumnus Paul Robeson.
The mission of the Paul Robeson Cultural Center is to provide educational, cultural, and social programs, as well as services that reflect the experiences and aspirations of minority students, with an emphasis on students belonging to the African diaspora.
