Pavilion Township is a civil township of Kalamazoo County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 5,829 at the 2000 census.GeographyAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.2sqmi, of which 34.9sqmi is land and 1.4sqmi (3.78%) is water.DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 5,829 people, 2,114 households, and 1,644 families residing in the township. The population density was 167.1 per square mile (64.5/km²). There were 2,253 housing units at an average density of 64.6 per square mile (24.9/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 95.61% White, 1.13% African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.65% from other races, and 1.84% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.08% of the population.There were 2,114 households out of which 38.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.4% were married couples living together, 10.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.2% were non-families. 17.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.08.
