Within 2 hours I had a tire pressure warning.  I called the 800 number which goes to a Caribbean call center, eventually a human asked if I had a spare tire; I had to stop driving, unload the trunk and look for a spare.  He said he would sent someone to change the tire.  I got a text saying someone would come within 15 minutes.  A week later, I'm still waiting.  I also tried the local number on my contract which no one answered.  By God's grace, I had no flat tire but drove the car a week with the warning light on and when I returned it I hoped to discuss this with the front desk but the man in the car lot wanted to avoid that.  He offered money off the contract price which I accepted, figuring no one inside would care anyway that you can't get help when you call their emergency number.  I'm just glad it turned out to be not a serious problem.  I will not rent from Payless again.  Other rental companies may be the same way, but I've never had this problem before to have to call the emergency number and not be able to get help.

Wouldn't let me extend my rental. Said I had to return vehicle to airport and re-rent a vehicle. I rented next vehicle from another car rental. Payless is not a good rental. Plus I was charged double for their deposit fee. They suck.

*correction  I never do reviews, however this was the worst experience I’ve had in a very long time with a company and wanted to warn others. Bare with me, it is long but I’m sure will help.  I booked a vehicle for about a week. The price was 244.71. When arrived to pick up my car, I was told “your car that you booked is still under contract so we’ll upgrade you, free of charge”. I opted to use my debit card, but in order to use my debit card I had to provide my flight itinerary showing that I’ll be leaving. After that was confirmed I gave them my card and they gave me the keys. I check the vehicle, taking a video of some of the small damages that happened. I noticed a small crack on the windshield, however I figured the notes this. I left. Unfortunately with the hot weather, the crack grew and I immediately called the office, no answer. I finally went up there.  The manager can’t remember her name, was absolutely amazing and kind, provided me with a new car for my last day. The new car I was given was an KIA. Everything seemed fine until I began receiving texts that a Nissan a totally different car that I never drove had not been returned in 3 days, then more texts stating 5 days, 6 days. Mind you, I had already left on a plane as stated in the itinerary I showed them. I called the number on 3 different occasions to ensure that I would not be charged, as I had turned the car in. I was assured that it would be okay. Unfortunately I woke up to a 1300 pending charge and a receipt stating the car was returned in Texas. HOW!?  Once again I called the number provided and Mark was absolutely amazing with the customer service. He let me know that he would have it handled. I am still waiting for the company to remove the pending charges. I refused to wait any longer and have disputed it with my bank.  Not saying don’t go with them, however just be extremely cautious and DOCUMENT  Update 6/20: I still have not been given my money back  Update: As of today, I have received my refund. It was a nightmare but it has been resolved!  Update: The Payless car rental in Texas has now charged me 663 dollars, stating the vehicle had a crack. Well I never drove that vehicle so I’ve disputed it with my bank an am still waiting.

The staff was amazing, both at pick up, and drop off. However, the car was completely awful. It smelled like a car that was heavily smoked in, and then cleaned out, but the smell of smoke will never leave the car. It was so strong. It made me nauseous.  I was renting the car for a business trip, so I didn't have time to exchange it, so it was a pretty awful three days.

Nice car but they should check the tires one had 38 psi the other 30.

Absolutely the worst! Budget one lady is doing both counters, and the line is crazy long. My mom's portable oxygen battery just died, and this is taking forever!

This company had a completely different car than what I booked! They also charged me $9.90 for gas to fill up a tank that was full on return. My car was gray and the receipt said I had a black car. BEWARE SOMETHING IS FISHY ABOUT THIS PLACE! THEY ALSO USE TRICK WORDS TO GET YOU TO PURCHASE THE INSURANCE. THEY SAY DO YOU WANT THE BASIC OR FULL COVERAGE AS IF IT'S REQUIRED! I WON'T BE GOING THERE AGAIN!

Huge mistake going with these guys. I arrived at SAC with a reservation for a full size car for the 5 of us. Waited in line the customary 15 minutes. Guy at the counter informs me my car isn't available. I can either wait a half hour for them to retrieve a suitable model from another location or pay more for an SUV. Well, I said, usually car rental places offer the bigger/better model for free because it is their mistake that they don't have the model I reserved. Nope, take it and pay more or wait says the counter guy, we have your model you just have to wait a half hour. OK, I pay more and take the SUV. Yikes! I get out in the parking lot and it is NOT AN SUV but a Jeep. By this time my party is ready to jump into the trunk of a VW bug. But, this Jeep was so dirty I could barely see out of the windshield. Gas mileage was awful and, well, it rode like a Jeep. Never again! Payless is WORTH LESS!

Pay a little extra to rent a decent car from somewhere else. This was, hands down, the most horrible car I have ever rented! If it weren't for the fact that I was in San Diego for 2 days, for 2 different funerals, I would have demanded a different car. I just didn't have the time. There were dents and scratches all over it. The front side bumper was literally falling off! And it sounded like the engine was going to die when you drove it. I am just thankful I didn't break down. I would NEVER rent from this company again. The employee who helped do my paper was very friendly, but it the car itself was absolute junk! I am cannot believe they even rent cars in this kind of shape!?

I drove about 100 miles, topped the car off within 10 miles of the airport, and then had an addon on my bill of a few additional gallons. 100 miles of driving and 7 gallons of fuel means the car only gets 14mpg. Either something is wrong, or I got swindled.
