We loved the natural beauty and peacefulness of the lodge. Our room was large and very clean. The bed was wonderful! Breakfast was fabulous, lunch and dinner offered plenty of variety, and the bar was staffed by a very talented bartender! We enjoyed both the 1m trail walk around the lake as well as the more strenuous and longer mountain trail hikes. It’s a very relaxing place, bring a good book as well as your walking shoes. Evenings by the fire pit beside the lake were a wonderful end to our memorable days here. We will definitely come again! Nearby activities: Located the beautiful Blue RidgeParkway.
The lodge is situated on a beautiful lake. The staff are friendly. I think Monday - Friday is buffet only breakfast and grab and go lunches. The weekends have full menus. They are closed during the winter but it's a great place to eat and stay. If you are driving up the Blue Ridge parkway it's a must stop. Bonus tip. On the other side of the dam is a pathway along the stream that goes for about 15 minutes or so down and is really pretty. There are a couple of places where you have to actually walk on the road where the trail is really overgrown but you can pick it back up below the vehicle entrance road.
This review is on the Otter Lodge Restaurant. Had breakfast buffet one morning. Lodge is beautiful and looks over lake. Food was not very good. How do you screw up scrambled eggs? By cooking a huge batch and letting is sit all morning and dry out. Also the sausage was the same God awful maple sausage. And the “country potatoes” were cold nuggets. Would not eat there again Stayed in campground and not the lodge. Campground was nice but no showers
This place is a hidden gem for sure! I took my family there over the past weekend and POO did not disappoint. The only constructive criticism I could offer is to step up the quality of the dinners. The service was excellent, the view was nothing short of amazing, the drink selection was great, BUT, the food wasn't up to par with pricing. All in all, our experience was amazing and we plan on making this a yearly trip before the little one goes to school every year.
My girlfriend & I just stayed at the lodge for a few days in July. Overall the atmosphere is phenomenal. There were a few things that should be noted though. Rooms, Service, and the beautiful nature of the location. In regards to the rooms, if you have a neighbor that likes to smoke, you most likely will smell whatever they smoke whether that be cigarettes or weed. On top of that, the walls were thin so we heard when the water was turned on, when/what they were talking about. So it was hard to fall asleep sometimes. The bathrooms seemed to be needing some updates. For example the floor grouting was so old that part of the grouting wasn't there any more and when you stepped into the bathroom the floor creaked and some of the tiles moved up and down. The balcony had a wonderful view and was super relaxing. However we didn't like the idea of having to share the space with the room next door due to the way it was built. However even though those are a few things that I noticed within the room, the bed was extremely comfortable and cool, the room itself wasn't a rundown shack, we had a wonderful view of Abbot Lake every morning, and the balcony had comfortable seating. Referencing to the service from checking in to even dining at the lodge there seemed to be needing some improvements. However over all all the Delaware North staff at the Peaks of Otter Lodge are professional and courteous. Lastly, the nature was amazing! Being able to walk around the lake and see birds, fish, snakes, Bears, Squirrels, and chipmunks was pretty amazing.
The rooms are OK. But you're not going for the rooms, you're going for the scenery and the peacefulness of the property, and you won't be disappointed there. Enjoying dinner with a lake and mountain view followed by a short walk around the lake during a sunset is a perfect way to spend an evening. If you're in the area or driving the parkway, I would highly recommend staying a night, maybe two.
Nice enough place. It was clean enough, quiet enough and the beds comfortable. AC's a bit noisy. The room only includes a Keurig coffee maker and six coffee capsules no microwave, no mini fridge. You have a nice view of the lake and mountains from all of the rooms. The rooms all have a small two chairs balcony overlooking the lake which is a nice touch. The entrance to the three motel buildings comes in a sort of the mid level between the first and second floors so getting to every room means climbing steps but only half a landing. There is a restaurant and all three times we've eaten there it was pretty unremarkable which wouldn't be bad but the food also over priced. Your room price includes the shuttle ride up round top.
The views are amazing- every room has lakefront view through a big picture window, and either a porch or balcony to the lake frontage. The walk around the lake, hiking nearby, and the path up sharp top whether you do the difficult hike or take the shuttle most of the way are stellar, and we saw otters and all kinds of beautiful birds, bugs, deer, rabbits, plants, and even a bear on the mountain! Downside to the rooms is there very dated though comfortable and have thin enough walls that it's hard not to hear your neighbors. Still worth it though. As far as the restaurant, the food was good but not amazing and a little expensive, but the servers were attentive and friendly, the drinks solid, and the views stellar.
I go up to walk the lake with my girls. It's beautiful up there. Plus there is Sharp Top and Flat Top you can hike. Plus there are trails ypu can walk as well. The picnic area is great as well. I've never camped or stayed at the lodge or eaten at the restaurant. They do have a nice little gift shop I've visited several times. I only live 30 minutes away. I just love going up there to get out of the city.
My husband and I just did a quick weekend getaway. We first went to natural bridge and then had a short drive south to peaks of otter. We ended up picking this place online due to the reviews. They didn't lie! This was an awesome spot to stay. It is so peaceful, right on the lake, pet friendly, and had its own restaurant. The burger with pimento cheese, according to my husband was amazing!!! I had the chicken and it was equally delicious. We had a king suite w it's own balcony and it faced the lake. Very clean and had great water temperature. It is right next to the sharp top mountain trail to give you great views if you are up to a tough climb. We didn't end up making the full trail but still enjoyed our stay. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The views of the lake and beautiful night stars and happy deer around the property made it a great location. We hope to come back to soon! The lake has a trail all the way around it too. Not to mention to get here you take 43, the Blue Ridge Parkway which had beautiful views and places to pull off and have a great photo opportunity. We cannot say more positive things about our stay. We cannot wait to go back! 5 stars
