Our mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Come check us out on Sunday mornings at 10 am in our chapel for our weekly worship and church services.
The Pekin Salvation Army is able to provide the multitude of services we do through the generosity of our donors. More than 50 percent of our financial support is provided by private donors from throughout Tazewell County. Additional sources of income include government grants and the support of the United Way of Pekin. Due to your generosity, we are able to meet basic human needs such as food, clothing, emergency shelter and much more.
Emergency Response and Disaster Relief:
Many families and individuals in the Tazewell County area have been recipients of the caring assistance The Salvation Army offers through our Disaster Relief and Emergency Services ministry. Working in conjunction with other agencies, The Salvation Army assists police and fire personnel at area fires, tornadoes, and other natural disasters. The Salvation Army provides for the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of affected families and individuals, as well as other relief workers and emergency personnel.
Child Care Center:
Our The Child Care Center offers a safe, Christian environment for children from 2 years to 5 years old. We are licensed for 27 children. Our Before & After School program is open for K-6th grade. We are licensed for 36 children in this program. While at the center, children participate in arts and crafts, music and other learning activities, as well as frequent class trips. Summer Day Camp is offered for 10 weeks during the summer. We enroll on an average 100 children. We take the children to places like zoos, museums, parks, skating, water parks, swimming. We also offer crafts, sports, Bible study, and an end of the year carnival.
Harold J. Rust Transitional Center:
The Salvation Army's work in Pekin includes the Harold J. Rust Transitional Center, a shelter for families, single men, and women working towards independence. Each night we provide shelter to an average of 30 individuals. Rust Transitional Center is located at 235 Derby Street in Pekin. If you would like more information, please call (309) 478-7878.
Social Services Work:
Each year, we help many resident's throughout the Tazewell County area with basic needs such as food, clothing, rent, utilities, car repairs, gasoline, bus tickets, public transportations, shelter and much more. Each month, we provide assistance to an average of 500 individuals. To speak with our case worker, please call (309) 346-3010.
Christmas Charity:
The "miracle" of Christmas is repeated over and over again through the joy of caring and sharing. The traditional red kettle is an integral part of the Christmas scene, with millions of dollars donated each year to aid needy families, seniors, and the homeless, in keeping with the spirit of the season. Donations provide Christmas dinners, clothing, and toys for families in need. Financial assistance also helps with basic necessities, along with seasonal aid. Families of prisoners often are included.
Volunteers distribute gifts to shut-ins in hospitals and nursing homes, and shelters are open for sit-down dinners. The Salvation Army endeavors to bring spiritual light and love to those it serves at Christmas so that the real meaning of the season is not forgotten. Many families receive aid over a period of months after the Christmas season as well, people struggling with difficult family, emotional, or employment problems.
Volunteering:
From its inception, The Salvation Army has relied heavily on volunteers who support its programs.
