The Perkins Township Police Department was amazing. My husband locked my keys in my car he's used to the newer cars that unlock as long as the keys are near in the middle of a gas pump station during our cross country move. When someone suggestedyhe police might help, I didn't think that was something they would normally do. I called just in case, and they dispatched an officer right away. After a few attempts, Officer Alexander was able to fish the keys out of the vehicle . He saved our day! Thank you so much!!!!
New modern design Perkins Police Station with ample free parking. This facility is tucked away from Columbus Ave., setting in little cove area behind another building. They do however have a small sign out by the street. But the sign is saying Perkins Township Services Facility, and in tiny print, down in the corner, like they really don't want to be found, police. Anyhue it's a good facility if you can get pass those sloping red poles. The main, and most important thing is, it's staffed with some wonderful, friendly, and helpful professionals. The Perkins Township Community should be very proud of the men and women of this department that serve and protect us all.
On Thursday, 14 year old girl, staying with her father at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott near Cedar Point was assaulted by her father for "not locating cigars" in his vehicle. Officer Justin Dority arrived at the scene, heard the girls story of the traumatic account of her father "grabbing her by the hair, slamming her to the ground, choking her & kicking her in the face". Officer Dority only interviewed 3 minors that were emotionally tied to the father. Officer Dority did not take photos of the girl, claiming that there were no physical marks. He also did not call for medical services so that she may be checked for bodily injury. He did not see any visible marks due to the victim being African - American. Upon the arrival of her mother to the police station the mother lives 3 hours away; it was noticed that there were several bruises; including a swollen eye, strangulation marks on her neck & the complaint of the child regarding a headache & ears ringing. Possibly due to a concussion. Officer Dority stated that, "They weren't there before"; to which the mother responded, 'Either the father beat her or the police did, as she clearly has been beaten." Officer Dority then stated that he, "Placed her in the conference room & didn't check on her for 3 hours, insinuating that the girl harmed herself. The mother pressed for the officer to arrest the father on assault charges, which he & Sergeant Martin Curran declined to do, stating that "In Ohio a parent can beat a child as long as they don't chain them up & lock them in a cage or closet" Friday, Officer Dority had an African -American officer contact the mother, as if to put her at ease. This officer, Assistant Chief Vince Donald did everything in his power to insist that Officer Dority's callous lack of response was justifiable.
We had a wallet with lots of money stolen from it by a cashier at a local business. As soon as we filed the report the officer went from the station over to the business and a few hours later we had the wallet and money back. Great job!
Very community driven police department with exceptional staff of officers. Positively contribute to the environment of Perkins Township.
