Community Demonstration Garden was established to demonstrate water-wise innovation and sustainable strategies.
A Community Garden in our home town, wow! This is so exciting. Perris has created not just any community garden, but it’s a community demonstration garden. In addition to traditional gardening, there are also garden towers where you compost in the center of the pot and some hi-tech, very cool, aeroponic towers, hydroponic beds and aquaponics as well. These last three save up to 90% of the water used in traditional gardening.
Currently, there is a lot going on behind the scenes. There are policies and regulations that are being developed. Volunteers are being trained, and ideas for the future are being explored. Is this something that you’d like to be involved in? If so, volunteer applications are available at http://www.cityofperris.org/livewell/community-garden.html
If you’re interested in sponsoring the garden, you can do that too! Sponsors will have a brick or paver placed in the walkway – you, your family, your organization or your business could become a part of Perris history!
What you can see from the street or sidewalk is just phase I; the city has plans to expand the garden area and to include an education area as well. Stay tuned for further information – or better yet, become involved! We hope to see you here!
